Quote
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countryís border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally.

The remarks, which came at two campaign rallies in Tennessee as part of a barnstorming bus tour across the state, drew loud cheers from crowds of several hundred people at each rally. At the second stop, in Harriman, Tenn., Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops ďwith real guns and real bulletsĒ on the border to stop illegal immigration.

Is this another joke? If we assume that Cain is a serious candidate, is this a proposal that should be taken seriously?

I like the idea of an electric fence that can sense when it is being pulled on/tampered with and send a message to agents to the exact location of the attempted entry....very East German Smiley

Yes.  When someone suggests building an electric fence hundreds of miles long in order to kill civilians it should be taken seriously... very, very seriously.

HEY YOU GUYS!

We're gonna turn it on,
We're gonna bring you the power,
We're gonna light up the dark of night
like the brightest day
in a whole new way

We're gonna turn it on
We're gonna bring you the power
It's coming down the line
strong as it can be
through the courtesy

ďItís going to be 20 feet high. Itís going to have barbed wire on the top. Itís going to be electrified. And thereís going to be a sign on the other side saying, ĎIt will kill you ó Warning.íĒ At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written ďin English and in Spanish.Ē

Bilingual warning sign? The signs should be in English only! Way to pander to the Latino voters Herman.

Also, this part makes it sound like a cage in a hard core wrestling match.

Yeah I hear you.  Someone who actually has government experience in a border state said something similar.

Quote from: Rick Perry
ďNo, I donít support a fence on the border,Ē he said. ďThe fact is, itís 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso. Two things: How long you think it would take to build that? And then if you build a 30-foot wall from El Paso to Brownsville, the 35-foot ladder business gets real good.Ē

Not a feasible way to secure the border, nor is it humane either.

I could not be more disgusted by this (wannabe) "politician."  What is next, internment camps for Arab-Americans?  After all, it worked in the 1940s.

The GOP continues to worryingly move closer and closer to out and out fascism, it seems.

Also why is Cain campaigning in Tennessee???

i think you're confusing trying to keep people in a country, with trying to keep people from coming in....by your definition, any property protected by an electric fence is own by a fascist...maybe you think my own home, protected by two bloodhounds and an array of guns is owned by a fascist also.  Tongue

I have a thread on that. As a Cain supporter of sorts, it is alarming. Sad
