Woohoo! One from the Whig era! Don't worry, at some point I'll hop on this though right now I'm stressed for time. I'm wondering how we'll handle Civil War stuff and the Westward expansion though.

Could we make the CW earlier? Like say have some southern states be seceded in 1860 instead of 1864 or something like that?

I'm thinking of starting a scenario where Taft bowed out in 1912 and Roosevelt was able to win a third term. Has that been played out in one of these collaborative threads yet?

Vice-President Lodge announces he shall not run for a second term. Picking the man Conservatives had championed for the Vice-Presidential nomination four years ago, Congressman Walter Judd, for Vice-President, Nixon cedes considerable ground to the Conservatives of the party, but to no avail as his shaky first term is not rewarded by re-election to a second.

Senator Henry M. "Scoop" Jackson (D-WA)/Senator Russell B. Long (D-LA) 357 electoral votes
President Richard M. Nixon (R-CA)/Congressman Walter Judd (R-MN) 181 electoral votes

1968

President Henry Jackson (D-WA)/Vice President Russell B. Long (D-LA)--332 EV, 55.7% of the popular vote.
Governor Ronald Reagan (R-CA)/Senator Barry Goldwater (R-AZ)-206 EV, 45.1% of the popular vote.
Others (States Rights, Prohibition, Socialist)-0.6% of the popular vote.

The Conservatives gain control of the Republican Party, nominating Governor Reagan and Senator Goldwater. President Jackson, increasingly unpopular due to Vietnam, still manages to win the election after vetoing a controversial civil rights bill, and as a result, George Wallace ends his 3rd party bid and endorses President Jackson.

President Rockefeller was shot and killed by Sarah Jane Moore on September 22nd, 1975. President Dole then choose not to run for reelection, and supported Secretary of Defense John Connally in a bitter primary battle against 1968 nominee and Conservative icon, Ronald Reagan. The Democrats renominated former VP Russell Long, who picked Reverend James Carter of Georgia, who was a member of the State Senate in the 60's before founding the Atlanta Gospel Tabernacle, and becoming the nations leading televangelist.

2000

Vice President Lamar Alexander (R-TE)/Senator John McCain (R-AZ) - 365 Electoral Votes, 51.45% of the Popular Vote
Senator Albert Gore Jr. (D-TN)/Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) - 156 Electoral Votes, 34.21% of the popular vote
Former Senator Ralph Nader (I-CN)/Representative Bernie Sanders (I-VT) - 17 electoral votes, 14.26% of the popular vote

A bitter primary battle between former Vice Presidential nominee Ralph Nader and Senator Al Gore drags on for the entire primary season, with the moderate Gore emerging victorious. Former Senator Nader launches a strong third-party bid, openly urging liberal Democrats not to support the nominee.

In 2003, Halliburtongate breaks out. Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney is forced to resign when it is revealed that key government contracts were handed out to his former company. He was brought before a Senate investigative panel, and it is revealed that had lied under oath. President Alexander pardons him the next day, creating a massive outcry, and the special prosecuter of the case is fired by Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, adding fuel to the fire. President Alexander is impeached by the Democratic controlled House, but the Senate (also under Democratic control) does not reach enough votes to impeach him. President Alexander promises not to seek reelection as a result of the scandal.
