In fantasy land, if you received your partys nomination for president in 2012 who would you pick for your running mate?

I'd go with Claire McCaskill if she weren't up this year--intelligent, moderate (and probably useful in the South), and the woman thing helps.

Among posters
I would choose Jon Kyle (assuming he would accept because he is retiring). He a lot like Biden in the sense that he knows his way around the Senate.

By the way, GOP372, the question was referring to the running-mates, not the person choosing the running-mate. You probably meant to ask it like this: Posters, what real life politician(s) would you choose as your running-mate?

I'd never get my party's nomination (GOP), so let's assume I won the Libertarian Nomination...
Gary Johnson would be my running mate. Or Ron Paul if my foreign policy views become an issue.

As far as politicians go, I've always liked Lyndsay Graham. I'd really want to pick George Voinovich but I can't have two Ohioans and he'd be too old by then.
Of posters, I'd consider ZuWo, Cathcon, Officepark, MQuinn, amacollum, realisticidealist, tmthforu94, and perhaps a couple others I haven't thought of. ZuWo would be my choice at the moment because I've worked with him the most thus far.

For posters;
Shua would be a great VP, but he'd be more effective as President or Senator. Had homely stayed, he would have been a great asset for a ticket.
Edit:
In real life, Rubio. I'd have to shore up the conservatives in real life. Someone young, energetic, and appealing to the Republican base would help with this. Not that I really agree with some of Rubio's stances, but politically, I think it makes sense.

Politicians: Joe Manchin, Maria Cantwell or Charlie Crist (assuming he becomes a Democrat). I'd like Bev Perdue, but I'm a citizen of NC; kinda like what TJ said about Voinovich.
Posters: Probably JulioMadrid or tmthforu.

As far as posters go, it would really depend on the situation. If I were looking for someone ideologically similar to me, I might go with Yelnoc or MilesC56. However, I'm not sure America would be ready for a two-communitarian ticket. If that were the case, it would depend on what issues I wanted to accentuate.
If I wanted to play more toward economic issues, I'd likely go with a Democrat, most likely Marokai Blue, Frodo, or Nathan or someone like that. If I wanted to play more toward social issues, I'd likely go with a Republican like TJ in Cleve or Tmthforu94. I could also take a more technocratic approach and select phnkrocket1, but I don't know if that's what you'd most want from a VP. (Sorry WA posters, I can't pick any of you)
Among real politicians, it's a bit tougher. I'd like someone like Bob Casey Jr, Heath Shuler, or Dan Lipinksi, but, again, that's trying for the communitarian/pro-life Democrat approach. Alternatively, someone like Sherrod Brown, Joe Donnelly, John Hoeven, Rick Santorum, Sam Brownback, or Mike Huckabee could work in various situations.
