In some other thread, a couple months ago, I compared Pawlenty to an NFL team on the bubble in Week 17 that doesn't control its own fate but only makes the playoffs if the 5 other teams ahead of it lose.  Amazingly, they all did lose but Pawlenty quit before waiting to see if they would.  Even after all the road kill in this campaign so far, Santorum is still like that last-in-line bubble team at this point.  But hey, Cain's campaign will collapse imminently, the party remains resistant to Romney, and Perry, Gingrich and Bachmann either have major flaws or are more gaffe prone than Santorum.  Maybe.

For the record, here's the flavor history

October: Cain
September: Perry
August: Perry
July: Bachmann
June: Palin
May: Paul
April: Trump
March: Huckabee

Did Christie ever make a good enough showing in the polls to be included in there?  Maybe he had a week or so instead of a month

Perry's presence sort of dooms him -- if he were competing with only Cain and Bachmann for the anti-Romney vote in Iowa, he'd move to the top eventually, but Perry has most of Santorum's strengths and ridiculously more cache. Maybe if there were 14 or 15 months in a year.

A totally generic, way overused phrase made you literally laugh out loud? Ok.

Christie doesn't really warrant a whole month, but I guess you could give September to Christie since Perry already has August.

I don't think it would stay on the cone for a whole month.

Cone?!  I think you meant cup.  As in two girls one cup of Santorum.

I can easily see it happening.  He will never get anywhere near the GOP nomination (let alone the presidency), but Rick Santorum becoming the next big flavor of the month is most definitely NOT out of the question.  If the base is crazy enough to take Donald Trump, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Herman Cain seriously, I see no reason why Rick Santorum should not also have his month of fame.
