Getting back to the 2028 election, modify electoral map, where now Katherine Barnes receives 55.67% and carried 39 states, winning 414 to 124 for Gerald Hoag of Illinois who carried 11 states and won 42.57% Here's that map.

Update I figured if Howard Davenport came from the East (in this case Pennsylvania) then he should have an almost clean sweep of the New England and Middle Atlantic states (in this case Delaware and New Jersey) voted for Vice President Robert Petty, the Republican nominee for President received242 EV to 296 for Davenport.
Here is my map, on differences from the other 2032 map, was that Maine & New Hampshire went for the challenger.

There is another scenario, by 2028 Katherine Barnesand her choice to serve as her successor in the Vice Presidency, under the terms of the 25th Amendment, which she invoked in the weeks following her succession to the presidency on December 12, 2024 Edward Morris, his virtue was that he brought political and geographic balance to a political marriage, he had been Governor of New York for two terms, before the voters of the Empire state, sent him to the United States Senate, he had made necessity a virtue, and his presence on the ticket made New York very friendly territory for the Barnes-Morris ticket in 2028. The GOP did just as well as the Barnes-Creighton ticket in 2012, in that unique of elections the GOP won 65% of the vote and swept every state but Vermont and the District of Columbia, for 532. Now it was Katherine Barnes' turn, she won with 497 Electoral votes, to win forty four of the fifty states, her opponent Gerald Hoag carried only Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and the District of Columbia Here's the 2028 electoral map.

Within months following her inauguration for her 'own' term Katherine Barnes was informed that Vice President, Edward Morris was diagnosed with a terminal illness, and that a cure was problematic if not unlikely. Most Republicans including the president herself as well as First Gentleman, Michael Barnes had harbored hopes that Morris was the party's only chance in the 2032 election cycle. Morris died by his own hand and once again Barnes found that once again after little more than five years, she had to invoke 25 and she looked at Robert Petty as an ideal replacement, he came from Ohio, had served in the House for over five terms, he had been appointed as Secretary of State to replace Charles Stevens and his flair consummate inside know how was a welcome balm after the feisty maverick, which was Stevens. While Stevens had served her husband well at Treasury and was like an 'older brother' of sorts to the former president, his manner grated against Kathy Barnes who valued loyal team players in her administration above else, a quality which Petty had in spades. With Petty shunted off to the Vice Presidency, Katherine Barnes found a perfect replacement in Robert Kanin who been White House Chief of Staff during the single term of her father Eugene Maxwell. Then Kanin had been her husband's Secretary of Defense for remaining five years of his presidency. Now after well over a decade in the private sector, Kanin was to be Katherine Barnes' third Secretary of State.

The 2032 election pitted Vice President Robert Petty against Senator Howard Davenport of Pennsylvania. Here's the map, it read 296 to 242.

Its based upon a blend of fictional presidents and RL events combined with some made up and borrowed features, from fictional political figures. In my TL, Ronald Reagan dies to be succeeded by George Bush, my original plan was to have Jerry Ford take the Vice Presidential role, but I figured if he was reluctant to take the plunge at the GOP convention in Detroit in July of 1980 and therefore Bush opts for a more conventional and political choice in Bob Dole, who Jerry Ford very likely recommends. Henry Chandler is a composite of a RL Bill Clinton, as well as Andrew Shepherd, I used two fictional presidents names and combined them together and Kentucky was ideal from the point of view, there was another fictional president called Oliver Russell in Best Laid Plans and he came from Kentucky, the other figures are fictitious, Michael Barnes is a composite of Matt Santos (Texas), and James Marshall from Air Force One, and like the Manchurian candidate, is the off-spring of a powerful political figure, Barbara Barnes, who gives up her Senate seat in the 2002, to allow her son then a rising 36-year-old two term Texas Congressman to seek that same senate seat. Her retirement was prompted by the events of 9/11 when her husband dies on one of the planes which plows into the twin towers. Mike Barnes (has just six years in the Senate),  Barack Obama (four years in Senate) and decides to run for President in 2008 on the cusp of his fortieth birthday. Like Obama uses the internet to build up a huge financial war chest in advance of the primaries and despite his youth, Barnes using his Persian Gulf War hero Status (Ala John McCain in RL) as well as his public speaking skills wows the American people, as in RL the financial meltdown makes Barnes' election more inevitable and dooms the incumbent Democratic president to an electoral whipping on November 4.

The other scenario I have pictured for the 2028 election was that Katherine Barnes and Edward Morris in defeating the  Democraticnominee, Senator Tom Neal of Florida, did so by winning 39 states, and garnered 441 electoral votes to 97 for Jensen. Winning 55% of the vote. Here's my map for such a victory.

We could go on and on....like the energizer bunny, apparently no contributions have come in from fellow members of the forum, not up to the challenge guys? Thought somebody might try to expand on the story line in the TL I have been pounding on, well here's another scenario concerning the elections involving, the first woman President to win election since the founding of the current political system, remember it is sixteen years into the future, not much of a stretch really when you consider the changes we have seen since 1996.
Here goes, The other scenario I have pictured for the 2028 election was that Katherine Barnes and Edward Morris in defeating the  Democratic nominee, Senator Tom Neal of Florida, did so by winning 42 states, and garnered 462 electoral votes to 76 for Neal who carried 8 states and DC. Barnes carried 55% of the vote. Here's my map for such a victory.

462 for Katherine Barnes
76 for Thomas Neal

As you can see according to the scenario I have painted, Edward Morris had proven to be a inspired choice and his selection under the twenty-fifth, which Barnes was required to do in the early weeks of her tenure. She had as you will observed according to my TL succeeded to the Presidency, when Timothy Wheeler was assassinated by terrorists as he disembarked 'Marine One' one the South Lawn of the White House on December 12, 2024. The event occurred between the reelection of Wheeler & Barnes (November 5, 2024) and the planned second inauguration for Monday, January 20 2025. The GOP had smashed the Democrat's sacrificial lamb Governor Andrew Morrison of California  who only garnered 69 Electoral Votes in that contest. Now four years later Barnes and Morris had a fresh mandate.

There was another scenario in which President Timothy Wheeler and Vice President Katherine Barnes won an even larger lopsided victory over Andrew Morrison, the electoral configuration had the Republicans carrying 48 states and won 521 EV to 17 for Morrison. Here is the map.

ITTL Democrats lose the plot during the 2020s and there persistence in nominating the likes of Nathan Samuels, a typical New York liberal, who happens to be of Jewish extraction, doesn't help there cause against Henry Wheeler, who runs presidential campaigns, the same way he ran his races for Governor in Texas, the dirty way helps send the Samuels effort to oblivion. Jon Morrison, does a little better against Katherine Richmond four years later, but not much. On paper he is the perfect candidate for the Democrats and his midwestern roots enable him to launch a credible campaign against the incumbents. But it is "National Security Stupid" which prevent the likes of Samuels and Morrison from gaining traction. To be fair I noticed there is to much emphasis on how successful Democrats are on the forum, and they are treated like the party are the best thing since sliced bread, when I see that Republicans are treated equally as well as Democrats, well then just maybe....

I know what you mean Wink.  We are indeed outnumbered here

I have painted the following scenario, on Sunday, July 2, 2023 PresidentTimothy Wheeler dies, from wounds when terrorists attack as "Marine One" lands on the south lawn of the White House; Vice President, Katherine Barnes assumes office, as 49th President of the United States; Barnes will be America's first woman President; she's the spouse of a living former President, Michael "Mike" Barnes. Mrs. Barnes will likely be a candidate for election in 2024; her first task will be to find a suitable nominee to fill out the the Vice presidential vacancy.

The 2024 presidential election was underway, and the Republican party, nominated President Katherine Barnes and her Vice President, Edward Morris: Barnes, had designated Morris as her replacement in the Vice Presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment: Morris, had been chosen not only for his geographical appeal, he came from New York, and had served as Governor of the Empire State, before going onto the United States Senate: Morris, was seen as the future of the GOP, as the fractious confirmation hearings over a year before had demonstrated; Democrats recognized this fact, by the stiff resistance they launched during the Morris confirmation hearings: now with the Barnes-Morris ticket decided, a month after the Democrats had selected Senator Tom Neal of Florida to be there standard bearer. The Barnes-Neal contest would be the most bitter in recent memory.

By the time of Katherine Barnes' inauguration on Monday January 20 2025, speculation was mounting on her intentions regarding 2028, but her plans and intentions would be subject to how the political landscape shaped up in advance of the next presidential election. Edward Morris was likely to chafe under the dominance of Barnes and her husband, who was a powerful political figure in his own right. Morris was now even more unhappy by the fact that Secretary of State, John Petty, now offered another obstacle to Morris' political ambitions: Petty had served long side both Katherine Barnes and Edward Morris in the United States Senate, representing the voters of California, in that illustrious body.

The 2028 presidential election campaign, was a contest of many twists and turns: Vice President Edward Morris, was emerging as the most likeliest candidate to face the Paul Henderson: Morris however died suddenly from a massive coronary on August 25, 2028: his death prompted the President Barnes, to select former Secretary of State, John Petty to replace Morris as Vice President:Petty had been neck and neck with Morris during the Republican presidential primaries: Petty became the GOP nominee by default. The Henderson-Petty contest was a bitter and fractious one, the outcome of the 2028 election is illustrated in the following map.

285 for Paul Henderson.
253 for John Petty

By 2032, Katherine Barnes had good reason to regret her decision in stepping aside in 2028: many Republicans shared this view and were prepared to embrace the idea of the former President, challenging Democratic incumbent, Paul Henderson. Finally Barnes decided to enter the Republican primaries, she faced John Petty and Thomas Jackson of California: but she saw off these challenges and emerged with sufficient delegates to secure a first ballot nomination: Barnes selected Jackson as her Vice Presidential running mate and so the Barnes-Jackson ticket faced the Henderson-Kent. The election contest: it would be the first time in 140 years in which the two major party nominee's were both Presidents.

394 electoral votes for Barnes-Jackson
144 electoral votes for Henderson-Kent

Katherine Barnes was not constrained by promises or commitments as she began her second term: she was free also from the concerns or worries of reelection, as the twenty-second Amendment, the same amendment which barred Dwight Eisenhower, George H.W. Bush, Henry Chandler and Michael Barnes from seeking or serving more than two terms. Despite assumptions of her being consigned to lame duck status at the moment of her inauguration, Katherine Barnes was quite effective during most if not all of her presidential term; she was able to reverse most of the Henderson administration policies; what she failed to achieve by legislative initiative, she utilized the presidential prerogative of executive order to implement policies. Her record in office, burnished her credentials as a can-do chief executive and her popularity, ensured that her Vice President, Thomas Jackson, would have an easy ride towards Republican Party's presidential nomination in 2036.
