According to the Constitution, it's three days.  The voting time needs to be extended.

Governor, I seem to have been erroneously placed on the ballot.

Ah, I thought I saw your name in the Declaration thread. I apologize.

Perfectly all right my friend! Mistakes happen. Smiley

Thanks to those that preferenced me though, I am appreciative.

EDIT: Only forty-eight hours? Usually our elections are seventy-two hours. Did I miss something?

Are you sure you declared your candidacy for this particular election in the appropriate thread?  Candidate declarations aren't official unless they're made in that thread.  There's been some controversy over this in the past.

Simfan declared on the 1st. Snowstalker must have been thinking of him when he placed me on the ballot.

I am officially announcing my candidacy for the upcoming Northeast Regional general election- whether or not I am elected in the special election.

He declared for February though, and forgot to mention what office, so Governor Snowstalker did no wrong by not listing him on the ballot.

Governor, The Mountaintop Removal Ban Act has passed the Assembly and awaits your signature or veto.

The Mountaintop Removal Ban Act

A BILL to preserve the environment and public health by banning the removal of summits or summit ridges of mountains

1. The Northeast Assembly hereby acknowledges:

  • That mountaintop removal is considered an 'extreme form' of mining
  • That mountaintop removal hurts biodiversity
  • That mountaintop removal reduces workers
  • That mountaintop removal is a threat to the public health

2. The Northeast government shall not distribute any permits to coal-mining industries that desire to mine through the means of mountaintop removal.

3. Mining industries that partake in this practice will be fined at a maximum of $250,000.  The final amount shall be determined in a court of law.

Governor, please be sure to sign or veto the legislation and verify the election results ASAP.  The new session also needs to open soon.

I hereby propose that we have a redo election due to the various problems in the last one (which I am accountable for). It begins on Thursday and ends on Christmas Day.

You can propose if you want, but unless someone provides me with an explanation as to how you're constitutionally permitted to do so, I'm not exactly fond of the idea.  This issue should be settled by the CJO.  Unfortunately, IIRC Cinyc's term ended a few months ago, and he or someone else should be re-appointed/appointed.

I skimmed through our constitution again.  It specifically states what dates elections are to be held and when voting is permitted, but not if redo elections are allowed.  You'd definitely have to consult with someone else before going about this.

Well.. the only grounds for doing this would be a legal precedent, as the constitution says nothing about this.

I don't know of any "revotes". That being said, there is absolutely NO REASON to be considering one for these circumstances. However, this problem likely won't happen again. I've drafted legislation that should go far in preventing situations like this. Smiley

It might not be good idea to start election on Christmas. I know the law doesn't allow much vacancy, but it can be moved back a few days since the session (and therewith, the vacancy) doesn't start until Thursday. What do you think Governor?

For the special election? There wasn't a vacant seat until yesterday.
