Looking at Politico's calendar of daily events, the one thing that jumps out at you is that Rick Santorum apparently lives at random Iowa coffee shops, libraries etc.:

http://www.politico.com/2012-election/calendar/

No one is matching his groundwork in Iowa it seems.

Now, I don't believe he'll win it, but could this let him do surprisingly well? Could he pull of 2nd and make everyone but the winner look real bad?

Imagine the headlines, ''Cain wins Iowa Caucuses convincingly, Romney comes in after *sn* Santorum"

No. He may do alright, though, or at least do enough to create some support for another US Senate bid. Given the environment, I think he could beat Casey in a rematch. And I really mean that.

I think that third or fourth is the best that Santorum can hope for. It'll be a fantastic night for him if he beats Ron Paul.

Chris Dodd literally moved to Iowa in 2008. Still only got like 1% of the vote.

Laugh if you like, but without this strategy Chris Dodd would never have won the 2008 election.

Well, I was half-right.
