On the other hand, I do think Kevin is right when he talks about robot supporters. Both parties have a base that is very unlikely to shift. Call it a built-in affinity. The longer a group consistently supports one party, the harder it will be to flip that group.

Blacks will probably overwhelmingly vote for Democrats for a long time, regardless of the party's actual policies. Just as southern whites will vote for the GOP.

The types of people who are more reliable in their support are moving to California. Thus, it's becoming further and further out of reach for Republicans.

I think the GOP not only can win Cali in the near future but will. It will take siphoning off the more religious conservatives from the Democrats.

Yes there are religious conservatives that are minorities in California and the other states. Yet the Democrats dupe many into believing the lie that the GOP is racist. In addition to that may I also remind us that most of the champions of the civil rights movement were in fact conservative leaning and progressive Republicans.

Why are people assuming that the GOP will remain the hard-right, populist-leaning party it is today? The religious conservative wing is weakening.

If Republican decides to support gay marriage, legalization, and abortion rights, then a republican could win California NOW.

The GOP isn't going to be socially conservative forever, it's not possible if they want to win elections.

Not as much as you think. Its strong still in Indiana and the Deep South.

A Democrat is going to win in a Bible Belt Southern state before this happens.

Although someone who appeals to the military families in CA might help, but I don't know how that will work.

Jeb Bush, John Thune, Mike Pence, or even Tim Pawlenty could poll close to 45% in California, but out of these four only Jeb could come close to win California-if Hillary does not run in 2016.
