I believe after flirtations with the likes Trump and Bachmann. To the anticipation and ultimate embarrassment of Rick Perry. To the passionate enthusiastic support and all jumping on the Cain train, which now seems to have derailed. Now it appears that Newt Gingrich, the one who many wrote off months ago is poised to become the definitive Anti-Romney.

This race is now between the former Speaker of the House and former Governor of Massachusetts.

Your thoughts.

Agreed! I always held out hope he could pull it off. I thought this was going to be the case 2 years ago. I definitely got a little bit deterred in the summer, but I always knew people were way underestimating Newt even though I didn't want to come out and say that since it was so out of the mainstream predictions at the time.

I thought you meant rock bottom. All these "anti-Romneys" are getting worse and worse. How much worse can it get? Gingrich is the very definition of scraping the bottom of the barrel. The man is scum and it won't take long for people to remember that. Romney's got it locked up if Gingrich is his stiffest competition.

There's always Rick Santorum and Ron Paul waiting to pick up the anti-Romney banner once Newt Gingrich implodes (like all the others) after about a month or so.

Fair enough, they really seem content hitching their wagons to just about anyone at this point. I had written them off as too far, but maybe you're right. Although they'd each be a relative step up from the last if it were to go in that order.

Does he have that support? And if he does, how enthusiastic and committed is it?

What about Michelle Bachmann, guys? If the GOP can go back to both Cain and Gingrich after abandoning them in April, maybe Michelle's second chance is right around the corner.

A bit outdated (2 weeks), but still interesting.

Newt is someone who can get the job done, not someone you want to date...so not very enthusiastic.  in fact the mrs. jmfcst's nipples are no longer hard for any of the GOP candidates

No one thinks Huntsman will become the anti-Romney?

It's difficult to imagine, based on how Huntsman has campaigned so far, but it's conceivable. This set of events seems plausible:

1. Romney wins Iowa.
2. Huntsman wins (or manages a close second) in New Hampshire.
3. Romney wins South Carolina.
4. Romney or Huntsman wins Florida, and Perry, Gingrich, and Cain finish far enough behind that they all either withdraw or become non-players.

Naw. I don't see how Huntsman has a chance unless Romney dies.

I take it she does not, in fact, want a job then.
