I'd appreciate a timely confirmation of Shua for GM.  He has my full confidence and I am sure he will do an exemplary job!

I'd like to see this handled quickly as we have not had a GM for some time now.

Despite the other comments here I do have some actual questions to make in this here thread for questions.

How important is objectivity to you in exercising your duties as GM? Do you doubt your ability to be so at all?

Will you work within the confines of former GM reporting where possible/necessary?

What would the general schedule of your work be like? How often can we expect news updates, or budget or unemployment updates, etc. Generally, of course.

What is your opinion of the work I did as GM, and do you have any criticism of it?

I have my own biases, as anyone else does. The most basic thing is not to use the position to promote a certain agenda, and to acknowledge the different sides of an issue.  As GM, my goal would be to present a balanced interpretation of what could happen, what the results of a particular action might be, etc.  So I won't limit myself to my own first inclination. For example, while my bias would be towards a more free market approach to an issue, that won't keep me from saying a Keynesian policy might have a good effect in the game, since that's also a possibility.  Also, I'll be responsive to the critiques suggestions of all Atlasians about the stories and numbers I post.

In the sense that's it's important to keep a coherent narrative, yes.  On the other hand, I think it makes sense not to be limited by this in terms of things like budget figures, which are always a work in progress - but even there I'll give some deference to the previous figures so it's not more of a break than necessary.

I expect to do 2 or 3 event updates per week, or more often if there's a particular storyline that people are engaging with. Unemployment updates will be monthly, unless I find they are needed more often. The frequency of budgets updates will depend on the amount of spending and tax legislation being passed, but probably monthly on average. I'm also interested in doing stories on other trends such as education, health, population, etc, a few times a month.

As GM I thought you did a good job, and I think I can build on what you developed. I was impressed by your work on the budget, though I'd like to improve on it by adding the revenue side. Likewise I appreciated your engagement with the Senate on the Social Security bill - though for whatever reason the dialogue on it wasn't continued in the Senate after I left. I had my critiques of the numbers for the health insurance program, but you addressed that and I appreciate it. Of course I had some differences with what figures or events I thought were plausible, but that's to be expected. The abortion story is one that I would have handled differently - not just because my own biases are different but because I don't think it lent itself to useful dialogue on the issue.

*Question From Gallery*

The Senate will please forgive the intrusion, but I would not make it unless I had a legitimate question to ask.

When I was first SoIA, Badger was GM. He gave me nearly daily story occurrences with which my office reacted to. My question thus is how will you deal with the Internal Affairs department? Will you be providing me storyline information to react to as Badger did or will you do things differently?

I echo the SoIA's question, but for the SoEA.

I have no questions for the nominee. From our sharers time in the Senate, I understand he has high expectations for this office. I really can't think of a better choice.

I see the GM role as one to create stories for Atlasia as a whole to respond to. I'd like to be able to come up with some things that the Secretaries can respond to, but if it's just the Cabinet that's involved, I don't think it really fulfills its purpose. As far as the relation of the GM to the SoIA and SoEA, my guess is that a lot of that happened privately before, so I don't have a clear idea of how that worked. I would want to be on the same page as far as what stories are going to be published, and as far as how duties are divided up.  While there is some overlap due to game moderation reform, I still see the GM role as creating storylines and forecasts, and the Cabinet's role as formulating and implementing policy.  I'm of course interested in learning about the Secretaries' experience of what worked well in the past, and I will consult their expertise.

I ought to let people know I'll be gone over thanksgiving week, and have a lot to get ready before then - so I may not be able to do much as GM for a couple weeks.
