As a part of President Barack Obama’s efforts cut down on spending, here’s what you’ll be seeing less of: swag.

On Wednesday, Obama signed an executive order that will direct government agencies to, among other things, “stop using taxpayer dollars to buy swag.”

What exactly falls under the category of “swag”?

The first and only person I know who used "swag" in this context was a professor of mine from Alabama.

In what other context is "swag" used? I've only ever heard it used this way.

Short for "swagger". Besides the example given, it's the only way I've heard it used.

I don't think he means "turn my various unnecessary knickknacks on". Of course, that might might make more sense than "turn my confident and typically arrogant or aggressive gait or manner on", but I'm leaning towards the latter.

It's slang for us youngsters that originates in hip-hop culture. Usage: "I got a new hoodie and am swagged out." or "Just got a blowjob! Swag." Not as many people use it anymore but in the 2k10 to early 2k11 era, it was the word of the year.

Has anybody seen the swag?

The swag hunt is on, but finding it is a lot harder than President Barack Obama may have thought.

POLITICO contacted more than a dozen executive agencies and most said they are swag-free.

We don’t have that kind of swag if that’s what you’re talking about,” said Vanee’ Vines, a spokeswoman at the National Security Agency.

Ben Sherman, a spokesman at the National Ocean Service, said the NOS has some “informational pamphlets,” but no swag.

The Peace Corps was one of the few organizations that had a whiff of swag.

Recruiting offices of the Air Force, Navy and other branches of the military were likely to have swag used for recruiting purposes.

Raises a good question: How can the military recruit without swag? Gotta think these things through Obama, this is our national security, since the 70's it's been based on Swag alone.
