While reading Ron Paul's letter of resignition from the Republican Party, he said that he had voted for Eisenhower in 1956, the first presidential election he was allowed to vote in.

Do we know anything about who the others voted for president?

(I may have asked this before, but now that the hopefuls are identified, I figured I'd ask)

Bachmann campaigned for Carter back in 1976, I would presume she voted for him

He would have voted Ike, Ford, and Reagan without a doubt. Nixon sorta hated him, but I'm guessing without a doubt Newt voted for him over McGovern.

Perry has quite a record of picking the guy who came in second.

Romney crossed party lines to support Tsongas in 1992.

Hmmm... I wonder if Paul voted for Perot in 1992 (and 1996 come to think of it). I imagine he would've supported Goldwater, Ford in the general maybe, Reagan in 1980, himself in 1988, and so on. One has to wonder how a person like him votes given how American politics works. Same for Kucinnich.

Herman Cain probably voted for Bill Clinton both times.

I don't know about '92, but Cain was a close friend of Jack Kemp, and definitely voted for Dole in '96.

The majority of blacks are Democrats, of course. Cain probably switched parties or made an exception for Bubba.

IIRC Paul very briefly considered a run in 92, but endorsed Buchanan when he decided to run. I think he probably voted Libertarian that year. 96 he likely voted for Browne. I'd be really interested in 2000, whether he voted  Libertarian, Reform or Republican.  I wonder if Paul has ever voted GOP for president since Reagan.

Not sure about any of the others.

He voted for Clinton because of a scandal that he wouldn't know about until well after the 1996 election?

Cain voted for Clinton in '92, but that's the last time he voted Democratic.

I was only saying that because the GOP didn't exist in GA until some years ago... he may have voted HH over Nixon, I don't know..

It's hilarious that the GOP primary has its most conservative candidates ever, and still a majority of them have voted dem. in the past:

Rick Perry supported Gore
Romney supported Tsongas
Bachmann was a liberal democrat
Herman Cain voted for Clinton in 1992
Newt Gingrich's from GA, so there's a high possibility he has voted democrat once or twice
Huntsman probably has never voted democrat, but will probably vote in the future
Rick Santorum is likely the only one who's always voted GOP, and Ron Paul votes 3rd party.

Pretty sure Newt's been a lifelong Republican, actually; he was enough of a GOP activist to found Emory University's Young Republicans Club, two years before he could even legally vote.

Did Romney actually vote in the Dem primary for Tsongas or did he just support him? Did MA allow independents to vote in either primary then?

Newt Gingrich is not originally from GA. He carbetbagged there in the 60's/70's. He was born in Pennsylvania I beleive.

My guess

Romney: might've voted for his father if there was a Michigan primary/caucus in '68, probably either didn't vote or wrote in himself every election.

Cain: didn't vote

Perry: straight D until '88, straight R since '92

Bachmann: Carter '76 then all GOPhers

Gingrich: Straight R, possibly LBJ '64 (he was Rockefeller's regional director in '68) or Carter '76

Paul: Ike, Nixon, Goldwater, Nixon?, write-in (Hospers?  Schmitz?), write in Macbride (L)?, Reagan x2, himself, Marrou (L), Browne (L)?, Buchanan (Ref.), Badnarik (L), Baldwin (C)

Huntsman: straight R

Santorum: straight R

Perry claims to have voted for GHW Bush in '88.

Huntsman probably voted Clinton in 1996 and Kerry in 2004.
