An 11 point lead in California is fairly poor considering how Democratic California has become recently

Exactly 4 years ago, SurveyUSA also polled CA:

52% Obama
39% McCain

Yes, I'm guessing that Romney's number is probably close to what he would actually get in the state, maybe a little more.

The fundamentals of the 2008 cycle certainly developed in favor of the Democrats between 2007 and 2008. Bush 2004 lost California by about 11.

Not good numbers for Obama against Romney. Gingrich on the other hand is expected. Californians have never liked him.

These are good numbers for Obama, inline with most CA results. No Republicans showed up at the polls in 2008 CA.

He's running far behind his 2008 results against McCain if Romney's the nominee.

Yes, but ahead of Kerry vs. Bush.  As I said, CAGOP didn't vote in 2008.

I don't think anyone actually expects him to reach 62% this time.

It could be quite easy to argue that it doesn't look good that Romney can't break 40% when the world has turned against Obama.

California's unemployment rate is the second highest of any state at 12%. Only neighboring Nevada is higher. No surprise that enthusiasm for Obama is weak here.

Too kind to Romney, I'm thinking. But go ahead Mitt, make a play for it anyway.

Remember when McCain vowed to compete in the Golden State?

Yeah and Californians didn't reward him for his broken promise in November 08.
