This thread is being made too far in advance I fear, but the rise of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has turned heads throughout the country. UK related posters may be familiar with him playing a role in Pakistan winning the World Cup in Cricket in 1993.

He will be running on the Tehreek-e-Insaf party and is running on a middle class populist agenda. The other players are the current incumbents, the left-leaning Pakistan People's Party (the Bhutto's party) and the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz faction. In foreign policy sense, he is considered an "Anti-American".

In a recent YouGov@Cambridge (no idea as to it's reliability) 77% respondents considered him the best-suited politician to lead the country.THe old politicians seem to have been rejected by the Pakistanis. Just 11% backed former PM Nawaz Sharif and 13% present incumbent Yousaf Raza Gilani.

He'll do about as well now as he did every other time.

Doesn't he get bigged up before every election? Is there any particular reason why this one might be different?
