Out of curiosity, how are you managing the hotel bill? I can't imagine that it's cheap, even for a long-term stay. I'd think a month-to-month apartment lease would be significantly cheaper.

I imagine it's the normal answer?

That would be my guess.

I respectfully decline to answer your question, Jesse, for privacy reason.  In case you haven't noticed, I'm trying to start holding personal information back.

The lunch with my boss is at 1:00 pm in Salt Lake, which is 37 miles from my hotel.  I want to be there by 12:30 so I can be waiting on him rather than him having to wait on me.  Since it is so far, in the lunch hour traffic, I am going to leave here between 11:15-11:30 to make sure I get down there no later than 12:30.  I should be through with lunch by 1:45 and be headed back to Ogden.  I will need to make a quick Walmart run on my way home so I don't have to keep eating out and blowing money and gaining weight.  I should be to Walmart by 2:30, which would put me at 3:00-3:15 getting out of there, so I should be back to the hotel and ready to relax for the evening by 4:00.

I don't think I've ever seen traffic in Utah.

Well, its definitely not traffic like you saw in San Francisco or what you're likely seeing now in Maryland and its not even traffic like I saw in Oklahoma City (since OKC is twice as big as SLC), but it does demand respect, nonetheless.

What can you get at Walmart that won't make you fat?

Lunch went really well this afternoon.  It was very nice to meet my new manager and he seemed pleased to meet me.  This lunch will make an easier transition when I start on Monday.

I've got two more business days to get the preliminary things done.

I haven't gone to Walmart, yet, and I will probably wait until tomorrow.  I've got to go back into Salt Lake tomorrow morning and then I'll have the rest of the day free.  I will likely go to Walmart, get a haircut, find a bank, find a church I can go to, and a few other things.

I know my body doesn't need this, but I may order pizza for dinner tonight while I watch the game.

All the Wal-Mart snobbery has gotten really stale. While the experience of being in Wal-Mart is not a pleasant one, it's a great money saving tool. I get just about all my non-perishables there. For example, a box of rice krispies there is the same product as at Kroger, which is in a far more convenient location, and at Wal-Mart it is usually about a dollar cheaper. I try very hard to ensure that my income is greater than my expenses, as I am a firm believer in saving for a rainy day. Wal-Mart helps to make that possible.

I actually love Wal-Mart. It's 3 miles closer than a regular grocery store, they tend to be cheaper, and they have a much wider selection. It's so convient for me to go to Wal-Mart versus finding an HEB or something like that here in Houston.

I decided to make a mini Walmart run just a little bit ago.  I didn't get much, but I got the basics, enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a few days.  Not much more than that.  This will help me save money by not having to go out for meals as much.  I found a Walmart closer than the one I found yesterday.  The one yesterday was 7 miles, this one was 2 miles and just down the same road from me.

I got some major clarification today at lunch as to where Layton fit into all this.  I will be starting the position at a remote location in Layton, but then move into a permanent location in Sandy by December 1.  The offer letter said Sandy because that's where the position will end up and they want me to plan my living arrangements around Sandy or Salt Lake, instead of Layton or Ogden.  So, as a result, I may be staying in this hotel until possibly middle November so I can be closer to work as much as possible.

I want to stay close to work, so I'll stay in the hotel that's close until after Election Day and then I'll move to Salt Lake/Sandy area into an apartment so I can be close when the move happens on December 1.  By doing that, I'll only have two weeks or so of a long drive to and from work and part of that taken up by Thanksgiving.

Feel free to post pictures from your hotel room... I love seeing the mountains in that area.  It's such a pretty area of the U.S.

I will be posting a picture sometime later on this evening during the Cowboys game.

A picture of the game?  That's less picturesque than I was hoping for.

I've only had 1 job offer that was located in Sandy, but will be starting off remotely in Layton.  That's where Layton fits in to this whole equation.

How can his parents afford that? $2,000 for 2 months? I don't think they are particularly wealthy in the first place.

Maybe they're financing things the way the US government does?
