Do you have some method of defending yourself against these when you go on your next trip to Kenya?:

Wildlife don't normally make their way into the main cities on Nairobi and Kisumu. When I go to Kenya, I will always stay in the main city and not venture out into the safari. My goal is to have lunch, not be lunch!

You better hit up the treadmill there Bushie. Lions tend to pick the low hanging fruit for lunch. Your fellow Kenyans can run for days.

You don't have to venture out into the safari. As the article says, lions have been penetrating Nairobi's suburbs of late.

Yeah, I know that's not the actual meaning of safari, but it sounds cool! You have to remember, I watch John Wayne's movie
Hatari
quite a bit which is based in the Tanzanian "Safari" (the southern neighbor of Kenya). That movie is starting to become one of my favorites!

Why does it take you two hours to get ready? Even when I need to put on a suit it is no longer than a 45 min between when I get up and when I leave. You need 30 minutes to get ready. Leave at 5:15. Get there at 5:45, pour yourself a cup of coffee, go use the bathroom, lie back in your chair, whatever. Wake up at 4:45, get two more hours of sleep.
EDIT: Just timed myself. 9 minutes from underwear to tie, suit, socks, and shoes- ready to go. I usually proceed at a more leisurely pace, but it shows it can be done. It takes 10 minutes to shower- wash hair, shave, lather, brush teeth. 2 minutes for lotion and deodorant. It might take you 5 minutes for slacks and a shirt. What are we at- 17 minutes. That's 13 minutes for breakfast- more than enough time for oatmeal or cereal and a few articles in the paper or even some scrambled eggs and toast. Getting ready in 30 minutes is easy, if you time yourself. I used to struggle to be ready by 6:45 waking up at 6, since I started keeping track of the time I'm often ready to go by 6:25.
If this is too challenging, consider getting things ready the night before. I can spend an hour or more dithering on what suit/shirt/tie/shoe/combination to wear at times, so I like to arrange my wardrobe before going to sleep when the occasion calls. When pressed for time, I will shower in the evening and simply brush my teeth, floss, and shave in the morning. If I want eggs, often I will make eggs at night and reheat them for breakfast with toast. If one makes a point of it, you can save a lot of time getting ready, and in your case save two hours.
On a related note: how do you dress? What is your appearance like- clean shaven, glasses, etc?

I say my alarm will go off at 3:00, but in reality, I'll probably end up getting up at 3:45 which would give me an hour until I leave, which, you're right, would be a lot easier especially that early in the morning. I like to set my alarm earlier than I want to get up which is set to K-Love Christian Radio so i can listen to positive music and start rousing up before I get up.

Tomorrow morning, I am beginning the process of applying for free medical care. I've mentioned this once, but I am 1/32nd Potawatomi Indian, only 5 generations removed from full blood. I am Citizen Potawatomi Indian Card Carrier, which entitles me to free prescriptions, free medical care, free dental care, free major dental care, even free hospital visits, and heavily discounted vision care. I was just enlightened to this eligibility yesterday from my Grandfather's cousin, who is, of course, 1/8 indian. My mother, who is 1/16, is going with me to Shawnee tomorrow to fill out the application. This cousin said they cannot deny us because we are a card carrying member of the Tribe, and have never turned anybody down who was a card carrying member.
That will save me a lot of money as I am without insurance until October 1 and without insurance my two major medications run me $3,000 a year. Imagine, I will be able to save $3,000 a year on medication, plus free doctor visits and free dental care. I just have to change doctors to the tribal doctors. That's fine with me.

Read what I said. You don't need to wake up that early, still. What do you do in the mornings? Perhaps you should try a dry run of my suggestions- at least see if it works for you. And the dress?
What are these Tribal doctors like? I don't buy this.
Have you considered what to do in Kenya? I'd think you could try your luck setting up a call center- you good make some good money, maybe!

If I have time in the mornings, I like to have a short 15-minute Bible Study to get my day started off on the right foot. I don't always make time to do that, but that's something I like to do.
I have never been to these Tribal doctors, so I can't speak from experience, but my grandfather's cousin and her immediate family have all gotten free medical and dental care. In fact, she told one story that her daughter had to take her grandson in for emergency wisdom teeth surgery. Two were growing normally, but the other two were growing sideways into the jaw. They sent them to Tahlequah in Eastern Oklahoma and what would have been an $8,000 procedure, all they paid was the gas money to get to and from Tahlequah. The procedure itself was completely paid for. Other people have had to go to Norman for bigger treatment and paid nothing. So, I don't know what the experience will be like, but if it saves me a bunch of money, I am willing to do just about anything.
When I go down there, I will go down under the support of Maisha Int'l Orphanage and work mostly at the Orphanage on the outskirts of Kisumu. I'm about ready to start researching places to stay in Kisumu. I will, most likely, have to have a regular job to provide major support, but I still have 32 months (as of 1 July) at a minimum to research all that.

While I support Universal health care in the US as a goal, I don't think you should be taking up resources from people who are actually, you know, Native Americans. 1/32 what a joke.

If I'm entitled to it, then by all means I'm going to endulge especially given my financial situation. I am starting to become involved in more activities with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. I will be attending their annual Pow Wow on Friday evening, 29 June 2012 and Saturday, 30 June 2012.

Let me see if I have this correct:
So you did not want to claim unemployment, something you actually paid into, because that would be mooching, but you show up for a few hours to a pow wow and you are entitled to free health care in perpetuity.
I can't speak from direct experience but I know most of these tribes and those on reservations are pretty desperately poor and have a dearth of resources. Some white guy with 3% and very distant ancestry taking up resources doesn't seem right to me.
I'd be interested in BRTD take on this- didnt he live on a reservation as a youth?

Bible study? I see then. Do try the dry run.
That's what I plan on doing next week. Maybe not at 4:00 am, but earlier than what I'm doing now, so probably about 6:00 am. One morning next week I am going to do a dry run ending with a drive to work.

That sounds good. Try to time yourself- you'll find it take a lot shorter than it seems.
Back to the related note: how do you dress? What is your appearance like- clean shaven, glasses, etc?

I haven't read the article, but I firmly support Simfan's efforts to blame Lena Dunham for our society's rot.

Generally clean shaven, glasses, non-holy jeans and a collared polo. My line of work doesn't require professional dress except when the customers visit the facility. I try to shave at least every other day.

That sounds good. If I were you, I'd switch to dress slacks, with pleats, and button down shirts. Especially ones with vertical stripes- they accentuate height over girth. Avoid checks and horizontal stripes. Wear your pants at the natural waist to prevent ungainly fat hanging over your belt- happens to us all. Ties also serve to accentuate height, but perhaps that's a bridge too far.

Get off your high horse. He's a poor in need of medical attention. It's a national disgrace that he's not entitled to care as an American citizen, but that's just the way it is. I would absolutely go for the free medical care in his position. I'd be interested to know if mental health care is covered also. Not trying to be a jerk about it, but I suspect that's something he could use as well.
