I know everybody is dying to hear what the breaking news and the new twist is all about.  Xerox is jacking with my pay.  When I accepted the job, it was on the notion that I would get $10.00 an hour the first 60 days and then $12.00 an hour after, not great but manageable.  They did not tell me that I have to work up to both amounts.  I’ve been looking at my pay stubs the past month and a half and I have been getting $9.25 an hour.  I’ve been told by numerous sources that the base pay will actually DROP to $8.75 an hour after the 60 days.  I can work up to $12.00 an hour or even up to $13.75, but it would never be consistent and I could make $9.50 one pay period, $12.45 the next, $11.25 the next one after that.  The customers would directly control my pay.  If a customer has a bad day when they fill out the survey, I could literally lose money.  Not only that, but I’ve been there 7 weeks and have only accrued 6.74 hours of leave.  I have to take this illness all unpaid.  If that weren’t enough, the supervisory positions they are offering are rigged.  They already have the selections made before they conduct the first interview.  So, based on that, I’m still at Xerox right now, but I am looking around and I am now looking outside the call center and outside Oklahoma.  This may have to put my Kenya plans on hold for a while, but I’ve got to do what’s best for me right now, not worry about what’s going to happen 2 ½ years from now.  One of the places I’m looking is Salt Lake City.  We have a couple former posters who live in Utah, namely TexasIndy and Jamespol and I am going to get them started looking with me for IT jobs in and around Salt Lake City.

$9.25 per hour would make you J. Paul Getty there Smiley

Are we talking wages now? Mine works out to $22.75 an hour.

Okay, this is getting pretty interesting again.

Like I said it has more twists than a full season of Big Brother!!

Your life should not have plot twists. Your should be constant and follow an unyielding pattern. Get up, run, shower, eat, go to work, eat lunch, go back to work, run some more, eat dinner, do something cultural, repeat again. You keep on doing the same thing over and over. You do not leave your job, you do not take foreign adventures. You stay put, and maybe, just maybe, they'll leave you be.

I don't know if you're serious or if this whole thing is some longstanding work of fiction, but you take what life gives you and you cope. You cope and hope that constancy will lead to betterment, the gradual accumulation of experience and respect at a steady rate. You are conscious, which is good. Avoid further exploitation and just stay where you are.

There is promising news on the Salt Lake City front.  There is a job in SLC that would pay a lot higher than what I'm making now.  It's not a call center, thankfully.  The position would pay $33,000 with benefits starting after 90 days and normal working hours - 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday-Friday.  That is $15,000 a year more than I'm making now.  I'm going to discuss it with my parents here in a couple hours or so and get their input.  I'm not necessarily looking for their permission, I'm looking for their blessing and advice and help.  I have until next Tuesday, 7 August 2012 to make my decision.  This position would start on Monday, 1 October 2012 so it gives me time to wrap things up here and get up there.  I haven't fully made my mind up, yet, but I'm getting close.  Kenya may have to be put on the back burner for a little bit.

You're making $18,000 a year now? Is that even above poverty level?

The problem is that every time you take a job, you decide to go on extended vacations or have some medical problem pop up where you take 2-3 weeks off. I think you desperately need to get away from your parents/Oklahoma, but I wouldn't be surprised if your performances at your past jobs hurt you. I wonder what the law is in OK when someone does a reference check. Do they discuss performance or just confirm you worked there?

Bushie, load up on food stamps and think about the earned income tax credit that you will be getting. In the meantime, take a book keeping class.  You do that, and you will be in the hunt for making $20 an hour.

$8.75/hr is $18,200/yr.  I agree with you for the most part.  I have accepted this position in Salt Lake City, Utah and will be leaving Oklahoma City on Thursday, August 30, 2012 to move there.  I don't start work until Monday, October 1, 2012, but this gives me a month to get acclimated to the new climate and find my way around a little better without having to rush right to work.

The law in Oklahoma is that employers can only confirm that you worked there.

So wait. This place just offered a job to Bushie in SLC without interviewing him or anything? Just agreed to hire on this guy from a bit far away like that? Does this sound rather familiar to anyone else?

Yeah, I was about to say... this sounds incredibly fishy. You don't just make a call and suddenly get a $33,000 a year job.
