I kind of view your thread as akin to a novel, that just goes on forever, and ever, with most of the action as it were in your mind, rather than on the ground. Which is OK for a novel of a certain genre.

i can think of three scenarios:
1. the job was an mlm scam. in that case it is probably best that it 'fell through.'
2. as j-mann said he got fired from xerox (or is it apple?) and concocted the whole slc story.
3. he really did have a job offer and failed the background check.

Aside from the "shredding" incident (odd term there - you don't literally have a shredder do you?)
I don't think it is all that unusual for poors to have shredders, Torie - I think with Globalization/Deflation they cost about $5 now. I know we had one in the family office from my earliest memories of the place (mid 1980s).

I will go with something similar to the online job he left Ok Nat Gas for. It was an online offer, and the offer came over to him as a little letter in the body of an e-mail with no company letter head or anything like that.

Certainly, Bushie's work ethic is not bathed in prayer. I think it is time for his parents to allow him to either sink or learn how to swim. Maybe he could go live with opebo.

Actually the overseer was a very talented white boy. I needed a specialist to handle the rocks, some of which weighed 3000 pounds or more, and required a two story crane to put in place. Fortunately the adjacent lots on either side of the house were empty, so the cranes could drive onto them - otherwise, the crane would have had to have been massive, lifting the coco flat rocks over the house itself - a rather frightening prospect if one dropped! I selected each rock myself at the rock quarry. I'm fussy about my rocks - they needed to be big and beautiful! Behind the main water fall, is a love seat, where one can make out behind a wall of pulsating water.

I thought I would pop in and briefly unlock this thread with a little update. I am currently in the process of job searching. I've got a possibility with J-Mann up in Manhattan, Kansas. I'll have a phone interview with him by the end of the week. My eyes have also been opened to the possibility of working for the Federal Aviation Administration. I'm currently looking at the jobs available at the FAA and when and where I can take the Civil Service Test. I've still got a prospect or two in Northern Utah. I am looking elsewhere around the country, as well. I've just got to make sure if I do find something outside Oklahoma City that it is a solid, confirmed job that will pay well enough to support uprooting my life here and moving.

I would be living here for El Reno, and it would be too far of a drive. I would, naturally, have to move to Kansas (or Utah or wherever), and I would position myself closer to my work place than I currently am to El Reno.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow. I’ve got a phone interview with J-Mann tomorrow at 2:00 pm!! I’ve also got eyes and ears in Salt Lake City, as well, thanks to Jamespol!! I’ve got more prospects outside of Oklahoma than I do inside Oklahoma! Wherever God leads, I’ll go.

If nothing else, my hope is that some advice and direction in a more-formal setting than the forum will help Jeff get on the right track.

There will be an overview afterwards. I somehow find it a courtesy to let the forum know how I'm doing since the forum has invested so much time in my journey. I criticize you all quite a bit, but you all do give pretty good advice. There is some noise and some static, but most of it is sound advice. I may not follow the advice publicly, but I do think about them and occasionally do implement them.
When I joined the forum 8 years ago before the 2004 Presidential Election, I never imagined the forum would be useful for more than just political education. Of course, I never envisioned myself still struggling to find stable employment and still living largely off my parents dole at 8 months shy of my 31st birthday. Now, not only is the forum being useful for more than just politics, one current and one former member are being proactive in helping me. Thank you, J-Mann and Jamespol.

I hope BushKE can find a stable job that doesn't involve a call center. I also still stress he gets his life in order in the US before using all that money to go to Kenya. Priorities, priorities... if he does want to go over there in a few years, he needs to have a job and a life here independent of his parents.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Andrew. I put in two applications to call centers here in Oklahoma City, but I'm thinking about withdrawing them. I don't need to keep going through that endless hamster wheel. I am actually looking more outside of Oklahoma than I am inside Oklahoma for the very reason that you mentioned which is I desperately need to get out from under their shadow. As I said last night, I am 8 months away being 31 years old and I need to get started. I've got the phone interview with J-Mann here in 40 minutes so we'll see how that goes. My only stipulation for moving outside Oklahoma is that either 1) I remain within a half-days drive or 2) be very close to a major airport so I can zip home if they have any medical needs. It is my obligation to do that since my brother still has 22 months left in the Navy and is currently aboard ship so he cannot come home. Right now, though, I do want to remain in Oklahoma at least another month as my mother has been in the hospital since Sunday with severe stomach pains. They had to go in this morning and take out the right side of her colon and she'll be in the hospital another 4-7 days. So, to be honest, i'm not doing a whole lot of job searching right now because my attention has been on her.

Don't be afraid to leave Oklahoma. I remember when I was looking at colleges, most of my high school class stayed in South Carolina for the 4 years because they didn't want to change scenery, but I went to North Carolina because I wanted to get out from under my parents rule. I am so happy I did, because I had so many experiences and freedoms I would never have had if I lived in the same town. I have always maintained that it isn't healthy to be that close in proximity to your parents. Love them with all your heart, but make a life for yourself. You shouldn't have to stick around to care for them or keep them company.
And I would not go back to a call center. You've tried it over and over again. To frame it as Christian as possible, maybe god is telling you that isn't for you. We all have failures, which is what makes life the way it is. Why not look at something like you were doing at the utility company? Surely you can find work there. Do the laws in OK state that companies can give you bad references or just that you worked there? Before this whole mess started, it sounded like you had a stable life, a stable job and could pay your bills. Go back to what works, not what you think might work or something that is a huge risk.

Just kidding, good for you for going to university out-of-state, even if next door. Though keep in mind this option is only open to the wealthy.

The interview is done and I am at the hospital with my mother for another 90 minutes. I walked away from the interview extremely encouraged. J-Mann was very cordial and courteous. I have applied for a position with his company and while nothing is guaranteed, I feel very good about my chances.
