Gingrich has more umph, he'd be real mean to Obama.

Romney would be too polite.

Romney, obviously. Or Hunstman, but, uh, yeah.

EDIT: Or a third candidate, Huntsman.

Romney could hurt Obama in his firewall states, nobody else in the running can do that.

Gingrich.

Actually I have no idea why I'm still rooting for anti-Romney candidates. Obama would have the best chance of beating Romney (of the two) and I would be the most happy to see Romney lose.

Huntsman. If he were the front runner of GOP he would have over 50% chance of beating Obama.

But almost no chance of getting the GOP base out... without some back-flips that would make Romney question his integrity.

Honestly, I'm not sure why people say this.  He's shown pretty consistently that he has dreadful political instincts, most notably a hugely unfortunate habit of speaking uncomfortable truths that the electorate simply does not want to hear.  I don't see how that'd be a less deadly habit in a general than a primary.

Huntsman.

Romney is second, as he has the potential to break into Obama's 272 EV firewall. No other GOP candidate could realistically break it.

If Huntsman adopts a better personality he could probably even make 5 safe Obama states (OR, MI, MN, WI, PA) somewhat close/competitive.

Huntsman would be up 5-7 points already if he had any sort of real campaign.

Why on earth would anyone actually think Gingrich has a better shot than Romney?
