In the long run, it all moves to the left.
Running on a pro-slavery message wouldn't work today, just as running on an anti-gay message won't work in 2060.

In the long-run, left. Temporarily, right.

I agree. Gay marriage won't exist in 2060.

A) It doesn't exist now.
B) Even if it did, your comment isn't even remotely responsive

That your comment was completely worthless? I'm tempted to, but I doubt they'll listen

so you think it'll be a dead issue and every person will oppose gay marriage? why? You realize polls show that a majority of the younger demographics favor gay marriage?

Younger people are more likely to favor gay marriage, just like younger people are more likely to die in traffic accidents. It's about age, not trends.
I guess in the 1960s you would have predicted that the country would be communist soon.

So what about who's more likely to die in traffic accidents? the older generation will die out and the younger generation now will be the main one.
"it's about age, not trends" - what the hell? the two are completely linked
You still didn't explain why it'd be a 100% dead issue.

Democrats had a pro-slavery message. Lincoln was a Republican.
and comparing the parties then to the parties today is utterly meaningless and goes beyond apples to oranges, more like apples to a non-food item.

It's not really possible to compare the Democrats of then to today. They were actually the conservative party.
Progressivism tends to be eventual, no matter what party supports it.

BRTD, what the hell do you not understand? Younger people tend to die more in traffic accidents. That does mean that in the future people will die more in traffic accidents.
I agree that progressivism will prevail, and Republicans are clearly the progressive party.

So you think people will turn against gay marriage. why? And why in such numbers that'll it turn into a 100% nonissue that everyone opposes.

Because it's a total joke. The majority of adults are not going to support destroying an institution that has existed for thousands of years.
Again, I'm sure in the 1960s you would have expected the country to be communist in 20 years.

polls did not show a majority of young adults supporting communism.
If you think it'll be completely dead in 60 years, why isn't it now? And why will all these people my age instantly change their minds?
Also, slavery was an institution that existed for thousands of years.

If you mean Soviet communism, no, but the hippie cultural was definitely mainstream.
The same reason all these people your age will stop reckless driving.
It is dead now. It exists in one state, Massachusetts, and will be banned by constitutional amendment. The only hope for it is activist courts.

You honestly think that amendment will pass? They couldn't even get half of senators.
How does gay marriage kill people like reckless driving does?

The federal marriage amendment? No. The Massachusetts marriage amendment? Yes. The polls show most people support it there.
Gay marriage doesn't kill people like reckless driving does. They both are outgrown.

by the way political views do tend to remain static among age groups even as they age.
Look at New Dealers and Reagan-era Gen X'ers. Comparing voting patterns to driving habits is asinine.

no, those demographics have remained fairly stable in voting patterns even as they aged.
