God tier:

Everything: Elvis Costello [and insert band]

Everything else:

Noise/-core: Archers of Loaf, NoBunny, Polvo, Jay Reatard and the Reatards, Pissed Jeans, Ty Segall, Titus Andronicus, Male Bonding, Blood On The Wall, Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid, No Age, White Rabbits, High On Fire, Mission of Burma, fIREHOSE, Minutemen, JEFF the Brotherhood, Butthole Surfers.

Indie-Pop: Teenage Fanclub, Papercuts, The Sea and Cake, Babyshambles, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Beat Happening (the later stuff mostly), The Broken West, The Helio Sequence, The Gloria Record, Pedro the Lion, AC Newman/New Pornographers, Annuals, The Unicorns, Magnetic Fields (would be higher but well.. Stephin puts me off).

Folk/Psych: Bonnie Prince Billie, Silver Jews, The Everybodyfields, Palace Music, Blind Melon, Woods, Phospherescent,  Smog, M. Ward, Fruit Bats, Sea Wolf, The Sadies, Andrew Bird, Magnolia Electric Club, Six Organs of Admittance, Bert Jansch, Cat Power, The Skygreen Leopards, Noah and the Whale, Leadbelly, The Cave Singers, Iron & Wine, Matt Bauer. (Not necessarily in this order.)

Honorable mention tier (would be guilty pleasures in some cases, but I have no shame):

Ska: The Specials, Fishbone,  Prince Buster, The Papers, The Supervillains, The Skeletones, The Wailers, The Toasters, Street Light Manifesto, Derrick Harriott, Sublime.. And probably a bunch of other so so 90s bands like Bosstones or Less Than Jake or something when I’m drunk (redundant).

More later, this is just more recent stuff I've gotten into. If I didn't throw in Mingus or some other artists later that would be criminal.

But my Favorite band/singer of all time is Iggy Pop and The Stooges.  I wish Iggy would get more airtime on the radio, his song's are awesome.

My other nine favorite bands/singers:

-Alabama
-Billy Idol
-Meat Loaf
-Bob Seger
-The Doors
-Garth Brooks
-Alice Cooper
-Prince
-Aerosmith

Glad to see Alabama getting some recognition here. Smiley  I always thought it was a rather unappreciated band.

Yes they are majorly underrated.

They were my favorite band until I was in high school. I still listen to them now though.

Jackson Jackson, Phoenix, Muse, The Bird and the Bee, Walter Meego, Cut Copy, Architecture In Helsinki, The Rapture, The Presets, Little Dragon...and plenty more. Plus heaps of 80s bands, and plenty of solo artists.

Of those listed, the Beatles, but I'm not huge on any of them.

Quite a few titans in that poll of yours. However, why should my gave be isolated to that group? I like the Who, Zeppelin, the Stones, & maybe even the Beatles. However, I don't have a favorite & the closest thing is The Doors.

My order for the options you presented would be:

1. The Beatles (nobody touches them)

2. The Rolling Stones

3. The Kinks (was not a huge fan as a kid outside of being able to enjoy the songs everyone knows but I have really grown to appreciate them a lot more in recent years)

4. The Who/Led Zeppelin (tie - I used to like these two bands a lot more than I do today... I suppose classic rock radio completely playing their stuff out can be partly to blame... but they also just seemed a lot cooler circa age 13 for whatever reason... at age 25 they strike me as much more superficial)
