Uh oh, last night might have been a good night for Mitt:

Gingrich 31%
Romney 28% (+1)
Paul 12%
Santorum 12%

Mittmentum!

Tongue

Somewhat of a relief - I was fully expecting Newt to start running away with this. Is there another debate before Florida?

Looks like either Mitt had a real good night last night or a massive Newt sample rolled off... maybe a bit of both.

I think the first post-SC sample will have just rolled off.

I think that insane sample where Gingrich had something like a 15-point lead is the one that rolled off today, which would explain the numbers.

Newt made a mistake playing defense in the last debate.  Newt has to recapture the mo in thursday debate.

Basically, the GOP electorate is ping-ponging back and forth between being scared of nominating Newt, and wanting to execute the Establishment over Mittbot.

Gingrich is still expanding his lead nationally, so it looks like the only reason Mitt is ahead again in Florida is because he's blanketing the airwaves. His campaign really is disgusting.

Gingrich 31%
Romney 25% (-3)
Paul 13% (+1)
Santorum 13% (+1)
Other 3%

If Newt can open up a 10 point lead, would a lose in FL even matter that much? Where would his supporters go? The anyone-but-mitters aren't going to Mitt or Paul and Santorum'll probably drop out soon after FL.

If you think that Romney's money-soaked campaign is disgusting, you must have been really upset over how Obama absolutely drowned McCain in 2008 in terms of ads and campaign spending. Right?

No. The two aren't comparable, as I explained to JJ.

Obama got more money from Wall St. during the 2008 campaign. I know he did get a lot of individual contributions, but pretending like he ran a campaign funded entirely off the backs of the working man is silly. He outspent McCain 2:1, so he and Romney had a lot in common. And that's why I am supporting either one because I want my candidate to blanket the airwaves.

Well, Newt's doing well nationally, but we have to take it one state at a time.  If Romney wins Florida, many of his supporters may go back to Romney.

I find kind of amusing that Paul has more than a half of Romney's support.

Giuliani showed us why national polls don't matter. I'll pay attention one state at a time. I still say whoever wins Florida wins the nomination. If Newt is going to do it, he needs to hit another home run tonight in the debate.

It's always amusing seeing people picking a fight with Lief's pro-Gingrich persona.

I am pleasantly surprised by these numbers today. Newt just needs to figure out how to win Florida.

Just get it down to a narrow Romney win and I think we're still okay.

5 days in this race is longer than an eternity for a momentum shift to happen. Infact, there could be 2 momentum shifts.

Agreed. I was receptive to the Giuliani strategy last cycle, but it was an abysmal failure. States matter, mo' matter, the snowball effect ends up deciding most nominations.

I guess Mittens loses support in states where he doesn't have millions and millions in superPACs actively spending money.
