If they decide to secede from the Dominion, would you be in favor of admitting them to the Union?  Apart from an oddly looking flag, that is.  Smiley

I would.  Oh boy, I would love that.

Yeah, they can join, but only if they join as a part of Montana.  A 53-star flag just wouldn't be right.

That would make for a seriously weird-shaped state.

Not to mention way too large geographically.

That would not be good for trade with Asia.

What about this. red is Free Confederacy. White is Hippy land. Mexico blue is Greater Mexico. Texas is the Republic of Texas.  Ontario blue is the Nanny States of America. Green is the CSA. Gray is Patrician Land and Pink is New France.

Given that, if I recall correctly, all of them voted for Kerry in the poll of Canadians on the 2004 election, it might not add the massive amount of electoral votes for the Republicans as you think it might.  The standard of "conservative" in Canada is a lot further to the left than it is in America.  Heck, I'm supporting the conservative candidate in the BC provincial elections.

Yay Hippy land! Cheesy

I would add the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut to either Hippyland or the Nanny States of America, though.  They're not conservative places.

Um... Bono... are you aware that for most of the last half century, Saskatchewan has been run by Socialists (albeit Socialists obsessed with being fiscally responsible) and has an extremely large state owned sector in it's economy (called "Crown Corperations") and is the birthplace of free healthcare in Canada?
Manitoba's provincial politics is similer.

Ok, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of that, Al and Gabu.

Here's a new with the changes: Louisiana is added to New France, Vermont is added to hippy land. Yukon, Nunavut, Northwestern Territory and Greenland are put together in the United Provinces of the North, and I forgot, but Oklahoma blue is the Agrarian States of America. Also, all these countries have free trade between them, except for Greater Mexico, which has heavy tarrifs inposed by the Agrarian States of America, and the Nanny States of America.

Sure, let 'em all join....along with the rest of Canada.
But we should take whatever we can get.

What's the population?  It could be one or two states.

The population of Montalberskatoba (Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as one state) would be 6,247,875.

Individual populations are as follows:

Montana: 902,195
Alberta: 3,201,895
Saskatchewan: 980,985
Manitoba:  1,162,800

Richius if your Canadian brethren were all like you I'd say yes, but you are a lone voice in a sea of socialists. We don't need more socialists in the USA. Sorry my friend but if you want to join America apply for citizenship.

each Canadian provinence except PEI is big enough to be a separate state.  PEI could join Nova Scotia, Yukon to Alaska, NWT divided between Alberta and Sasketchewan, and Nunavut remaining a territory.

Gabu, I don't mean to be rude to Canadians, but I think socialist is the right word. The "crazy" part was your word not mine. I hope you were not offended.

You could do two states: Alberta and New Canada.

I couldn't quite imagion the situation where that would happen.

I would love for Canada to join the United States. Canadians are always saying how they are oppressed by the United States, well then join the US and promote your own intrests. What do you think is better? Protesting in your own country were the government of the US doesn't listen to you or having two Senators for each province and numerous representatives who would be able to debate your stance on the issues. You can either continue to be just another small country that the US doesn't listen to or you can become part of the US and make your voices heard.

But population and influence wise it is very small. It has 30,000,000 people thats less than California. In international influence it has very little especially when compared to its neighbor to the South.

I'm not offended; I simply cannot understand the claim that all Canadians are socialists.  Canada has some socialist policies, to be sure, but so does America (to a certain extent), and nobody is calling Americans socialist.  Capitalism is very much alive and well in Canada; we have both very rich people and very poor people.  Our maximum federal income tax rate is less than what it is in America (29% compared to 35%).  The prime minister we elected prior to Jean Chrétien was a conservative.

This list could probably continue.

Without a doubt there are socialists in America, and as you know there are even those in this forum who openly admit to being communists.

3 reasons why I would say Canada is further down the path to socialism than we are;
Your healthcare plan is 100% socialist.
Your gun control laws reflect the socialist philosophy that individual rights are trumped by the collective good.
Your government takes a bigger slice of the economy than ours.

Canadians have those things because they voted for them, and presumably they would vote for them here if they became part of America. I believe in capitalism. I believe that in spite of its shortcomings, it is the best system for providing for the majority of the citizens. So I do not want to see socialist policies adopted here.
