there was been rumors on national security sites for the past several months that US drones were infected with a virus that was capturing a log of commands....and now it appears (due to the excellent condition of the captured US drone) that Iran took control of the drone and landed it safely.

Not sure if Iran hacked it, or had help from another entity like Russia or China...but it appears US systems have been compromised.

the WSJ reported the Obama Administration drew up plans to retreive the drone, but decided against it.

big mistake!

...all told, a Israel-Iran war before the end of Winter looks increasingly likely.

You seem positively excited about the prospect.

yeah, and have wanted to do so for years...and the sooner the better.

I even thought that is what B43 was setting up for with his invasion of Iraq in 2003, which is the only reason I supported the invasion in the first place.

Yeah, jmfcst, it works like a pudding, you see? If you first eat the untasty greens(or do you call them vegetables?) of lip service to international law and humanitarianism, the sweet delightfull pie of mass murder and messing up the evil mussulmen real bad is going to taste even sweeter!

I'm always amazed to discover that there are people who don't have him on ignore. Anyway, has he bought himself a new box of kleenex?

sometimes war is not only unavoidable, it is necessary...anyone with half a brain understands this war has been inevitable since 1979.

destruction of the West has been the intention of the Iranian leadership since 1979...it's what they have claimed all along, and it is what they have been working towards all along.

It's what they want and have always wanted, and there is no way to stop them from starting a war.  They will do so when the time is right for them.  The question for us is whether we go to war on their timetable or on ours.  And the longer we wait, the more we'll be fighting on their timetable.

Look for Israel to force Obama's hand in the next couple of months.  If Obama doesn't want to go along (which he almost assuredly won't), the Jews will go without him.

Call me crazy, but I think they had the right to do it. We were flying a drone over their airspace, plain and simple.

jmfcst is right. If there is to be a war, lets get it on, and lets get rid of the evil in Iran sooner rather than later.

of course Iran had the right to take action if we fly over their territory...that's not the question.

Jmf, you are very cavalier in calling for a war.  Can you list your reasons as to why we should resort to force now? Can you do this without using Israel as a justification?

You don't have the best track record when it comes to predicting imminent wars

Isreal can take care of itself...and I haven't used Israel as a jsutification.

If we, the US, fight the war now on our terms, we have a better chance at limiting it and thus causing less damage to the flow of oil and the overall economy.

We should take out their airforce, navy, and heavy equipment of their army...bomb their nuclear infrastructure to dust, then go home.  I'm not interested in occupying them.

Um, if Iran is able to hack the most advanced and secret drone, wouldn't they be able to make any missiles, fighter jets, and bombers heading their way fall like bricks? Or maybe even prevent them from leaving the ground?

it's been known for sometime that our drones were potentially vulnerable to such a hack, but fixing the problem would have required pulling them out of service for an extended period, and they misjudged the likelihood of them being hacked.  Still, you would have thought any they had flying over or even near Iran would have been drones upgraded to avoid the problem.

There is no concrete evidence that Iran did anything.  But as you point out if they hacked a spy drone that was in their airspace I do not see any cause for war.  Maybe them attacking us for repeatedly violating their sovereignty.  That's like a peeping tom suing you after you took away his camera while he was in your house surreptitiously taking pictures of your naked wife.

It is early days.  We may not know the whole story for quite some time if ever.  I would be very careful with jmfcst's threads.  The titles may be juicy but if you do even 5 seconds worth of research on the google machine you will find that a lot of the time they are very inaccurate.

I've seen threads on here go on for pages based on a false or misleading jmfcst original post.  Eventually around page 4 or 5 someone actually bothers to read a link about the topic and realizes things were completely misstated.

lol, what happened then?

The drone suddenly decided to surrender to the Iranian army? Or is that a Christmas present to the Iranian regime? (involuntarily it's one anyways)

Is that to justify the over big amount of money put in the American military that American administrations repeatedly feel forced to unconsciously screw around with their big toys?

Iranian desert is not a good spot for American aircrafts apparently...
