The Liberal Party.
«
on:
December 10, 2011, 06:18:43 pm »
Copying our Social Democratic cousins, this will serve as our official thread, and convention of sorts.
First things first, I'd like to hold an election for Chair, if there's more than one candidate, or we can just go straight to adopting a platform, and possibly a logo or colour or something. We also might want to make a Wiki article.
Liberal Caucus Membership:
Supreme Court Justice
Oakvale (interim Chair)
Senator
Napoleon
President
Snowguy716
Vice-President
Bacon King
Former President
Polnut
Former Vice-President
Dallasfan65
Former Senator
Jbrase
Speaker of the Northeast Assembly
Scott
Northeast Assemblyman
RFK
Peeperkorn
Reginald
Nagas
I'll also like to announce that I'd like to serve as Chair proper, although if someone else wants to do it we'll hold a brief election.
Oh, one more thing - as acting Chair I formally invite the members of the Earth Liberation Caucus to join us. We're Green, we just haven't got an official platform yet.
Anyway, members please sign in below.
X
Oakvale.

Do it! I'll design one too and we can offer them up for a vote.

Finished.
To sum it up: simple concept, but detailed image. I just hope that this reminds people more of JFK than Herman Cain.
Also made something that might be ideal for signatures.

Indeed, sorry! Membership list has been updated.
Great logos, Scott! My own ideas on a logo - I like the idea of a torch as our party symbol, Cain associations aside, and adopted it into a more styilised logo -
...and an alternative with a slightly different torch/flame design.
EDIT: I'd also, on behalf of the Liberals, like to congratulate our new slate of at-large Senators. Do us proud!

I suggest we take your post from the original thread -
Quote from: No Good Napoleon on December 06, 2011, 07:46:49 pm
I'm just throwing some ideas out for discussion- don't take this as the platform of the caucus.
- Support for safe, accessible, and legal abortion
- Generally supportive of free trade agreements
- Supportive of a compassionate and realistic immigration policy, including increased legal immigration
- Support liberalization of sex and drug policies at regional and federal level
- Pursue comprehensive environmental protection and restoration legislation
- Create a prosperous business envrionment by avoiding overregulation
And some light plagarism of Scott's Clinton quote -
Quote from: Northeast Speaker Scott link=topic=144926.msg3113801#msg3113801
date=1323219621
Sounds good, so far. Another idea to add to the mix: here's an excerpt from Bill Clinton's
My Life
book that I quoted on another website to sum up what New Democrats are for.
Quote
(1) restoring economic growth by replacing supply-side economics with our more disciplined "invest and grow" policy; (2) resolving the debate over the role of government in our lives by demonstrating that it is neither the enemy nor the solution, but instruments to give our people the tools and conditions to make the most of their own lives; (3) reaffirming the primacy of community as the operative political model for America, and rejecting divisions by race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or political philosophy; (4) replacing rhetoric with reality in our social policy, actually proving government action could make a difference in areas like welfare and crime if it reflected common sense and creative thinking, rather than just tough talk and hot rhetoric; (5)reestablishing the family as the primary unit of society, one that government could strengthen with policies like the family leave law, the Earned Income Tax Credit, the minimum wage increase, the V-chip, the anti-teen smoking initiative, efforts to increase adoption, and new reforms in health and education; (6) and reasserting America's leadership in the post-Cold War world as a force for democracy, shared prosperity, and peace, and against the new security threats of terror, weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, and racial and religious conflicts
We could adopt parts of this for the official platform.
...and work from there.

Okay, since the holidays are rapidly approaching I think it makes sense to follow the lead of our parent party and continue this convention-y thing in the New Year.

Legalization of the practice of abortion in the first weeks of pregnancy, particularly in cases of rape or eventual life risk for the mother.
Free and mandatory sexual and drugs education for teenagers.
Defense of LGTB rights, including marriage and child adoption.
Defense of stem cell research.
Legalization of the consumption of all drugs.
Legalization of limited homegrown of Canabbis for personal consumption.
Death Penalty is barbaric.
Taxes should be progressive. New taxes, if necessary, should never be applied to low and middle income homes.
Help the individual and the families, not corporations.
Support of consumer defense organizations.
Fight against monopolies or oligopolies.
Oppose unnecessary bureaucracy; if community can follow these principles, government should stay way.
War should never be declared because of ideology, only in cases where national security is at risk.
Free Trade agreements is the best way to create prosperity, both in Atlasia and foreign countries.
