With hindsight, however, one can easily see how the disaster of the 2012 Republican National Convention was utterly inevitable. Even months the Iowa caucus, the various candidates all vacillated wildly in the polls, each capable of winning considerable support yet none of them able to establish themselves as the presumptive nominee. After the first five contests were won by five different candidates, I think everybody knew that the RNC's lack of strict rules to govern these primaries, along with the absence of something like the Democratic Party's superdelegates, would come back to bite them in the ass."
