I understand the number of ridings were based on 2011 population estimates, not the 2011 Census Data as before.

Using Census Data
Ontario wil get 116 seats not 121
Alberta 33 not 34
BC 40 not 41
Quebec and the other provinces will remain the same.

1st Column Census Number, 2nd Column 2011 Estimates

Newfoundland and Labrador   514,536   510,578
Prince Edward Island    140,204   145,855
Nova Scotia       921,727   945,437
New Brunswick   751,171   755,455
Quebec †   7,903,001   7,979,663
Ontario †   12,851,821   13,372,996
Manitoba †   1,208,268   1,250,574
Saskatchewan †   1,033,381   1,057,884
Alberta †   3,645,257   3,779,353
British Columbia †   4,400,057   4,573,321

any idea when the other maritime provinces will release their proposals? i'm looking to see NS and NB... from a purely how-can-the-ndp-benefit side of things Smiley

Here is a repeat of my earlier post, when the last redistibution took place.

What bugs me about riding names in Canada is how long some of them can get, often naming three or four communities in the riding as its name. I mean, I get why, but if a riding takes over five seconds to actually just say...

Quebec is a pretty bad offender.

Worst case is West Vancouver--Sunshine Coast--Sea to Sky Country

During The House of Commons votes the clerk says the last name of the MP (ie Mr Smith). If the last name is shared between more than one MP, the name of the riding is include (Mr Smith, Yukon) However, there are 2 Wetson's in parliament. One in Saint John, and one in West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast -Sea to Sky Country. So when the clerk reads his vote, he would say Mr Weston, West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country, and the next clerk repeats it.

We're still waiting for Ontario (the largest), PEI (the smallest) and Manitoba.
How hard is it divide PEI into 4 ridings? Smiley

It looks like the Town of Morris was gerrymandered back into Provencher. Where the area around Morris moved to Portage-Lisgar

Don't expect any more reports any time soon.

The reports have to be tabled in the House of Commons first.

The House of Commons is adjourned until Monday Jan 28th

Parliament is back from their Easter Break, and expect more final reports.

The new map for Newfound/Labrador has been tabled. (4 out 10 provinces are now final)

The Transposition of Votes are now available on the Elections Canada website

http://elections.ca/content.aspx?section=res&dir=cir/trans2013&document=index&lang=e

Tables:
http://elections.ca/res/cir/trans2013/default.asp?lang=e

New Results
Consv 166 to 188
NDP    103 to 109
Lib     34 to 36
BQ    4 to 4
Green 1 to 1

In the 6 Provinces that saw no change in seats, there was a change in the party standings
NL: Conservatives  gain a seat from the Liberals
MB: NDP gain a seat from the Liberals
SK: NDP gains 2 seats from the Conservatives

In BC even though there was a addition of 6 seats, the NDP would lose 1 seat to the Conservatives

In Alberta and BC, the Conservative won all the new seats.

I realized that since he is not the only Mr. Brown in Parliament, whenever they speaker records his vote, he's going to have to say the whole riding name. I get it now.

"Mr. Brown, Leeds-Greenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes"

The same is true for Mr. Weston, West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country

Video of a vote (See 0:38 for Mr. Weston)
