The new DU jury system
«
on:

This would be a better moderation system than what we have. Now on DU if a thread or post is reported instead of leaving it to the whim of a mod several members are PMed at random and asked to vote on what to do about it. A majority vote wins. We could keep mods to serve as "judges" I guess and dish out infraction points, but this would put an end to mod abuses. Frequent mod abuses on DU were part of the reason it was implemented.

The problem with that is that there are a lot more red avatars than blue avatars. I don't think blue avatars would get a fair shake here.

For whom was there more outcry and whining about their banning:

HoffmanJohn annoyed everybody. That had nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with his style here. You're using one example of a ban. If your plan was implimented, the conservative posters on this site would be driven out.

Though I see no particular need to move to a system as described, your apparent belief that the forum membership (or maybe just the red avatars) would be uniformly and inherently partisanly biased in such decisions and would actively seek to turn this forum into some version of DU is rather disheartening, and I think, pretty clearly untrue.

That is, of course, the end game.

The loudest people on the forum have a bias against conservatives.

You guys are forgetting the key factor here: such a system would have to be implemented by Dave. So yeah, it's not happening.

Am I the only one who finds this system - given it's apparently on the Democratic Underground - almost hilariously stereotypical of 'progressives'?

How do we pm random members? A lot of our "members" haven't shown up in years and only made 1 post to begin with. There'd need to be some random cutoffs etc.

That seems to run the risk of how posters are disciplined being based on their popularity, rather than based on the merits focusing on the content of their posts. Posters who are unpopular, particularly if that arises from their having unpopular views, should be
protected
by the powers that be if they otherwise act decently without personally attacking other posters, and follow the terms of use, as opposed to becoming road-kill.

I highly disagree that a system like this would lead to conservatives being banned. People like CaDan would be gone because they deserve to be gone! But there are plenty of other conservative people here who would be just fine. Someone like Link would be gone way before Jmfcst. You disappoint me Inks. Not that I support what BRTD proposed, but your characterization of this forum is wrong, Inks.

You
are saying that a meme is overused and no longer funny?
That'd be like me accusing another poster of posting too much about Jesus or opebo.

I know the moderators are unfair overlords who unjustly ban people, but this would just cause the unjust bannings to skyrocket. There are plenty of people I hate on this forum, but I don't want them banned. I feel this would be used to ban people who are unpopular for no reason, which would defeat the purpose of having moderators who are supposed to protect those who aren't popular.
