Does anyone know where to get up-to-date precinct shapefiles? I've been able to put together a precinct map for Virginia in 2000 (http://www.geocities.com/kn1122us/vaprecinctmap.PNG), but no shapefiles can be found for 2004.

That is, unfortuantely, a difficult process at best.  I had to go to my state comptroller's office in order to get an updated shp file for my county and I've had to manually edit it for changes as our county election commission forbids itself from selling it's GIS files.  The state charges for shapefiles so I calculated that it would cost me about $900 plus the data entry in order to make one for 2004.

Of course the 2000 boundaries are easy to find because they are in the Tiger data but I doubt we'll get that luxury again until 2010.

Thanks!

Anyways, the prospect of a precinct map every 10 years isn't all to endearing...oh well.
