It's not particularly surprising.  The question is where those voters are going.

It seems that the only fundamental, transformative change that Newt's going to realize will be in his polling averages.

Newt's 1.6 million dollar dalliance with Fannie Mae cut an artery, as well it should have. The man has the ethics of an alley cat on the prowl. He charged that to tell them that they need to work with mortgagors to teach them how to be good stewards of their home, so its value is protected?  Brilliant, just brilliant. The man is a genius! Of course there was no political influence buying and selling. How could that possibly be?

This leaves the question of who that puts in first and second. My guess would be Romney and Paul, but were it obviously either they'd probably have said so already. So its probably a pretty close race between those two with Gingrich in third.

EDIT: They mentioned Paul, Romney, and Newt in that order. PPP has a tendency to put candidates in order of finish in their tweets, which would imply Paul in first. But then, they also like to announce incredible events, and Paul in first would be fairly incredible. Of  course, maybe they aren't finished or want to "surprise" us...

I'm now officially betting on this showing either Paul in first or within 2% of first.

Paul may be able to sneak out a win in Iowa, but I think if this race comes down to Paul and Romney,  Romney should easily be able to win once people start taking a hard look on Paul's foreign policy views.

From what I've seen this race, foreign policy is either a minor issue for the average Republican (as opposed to the talking heads who seem to think the Republicans are still the War Party of '04) or they are changing their minds, since no amount of attacks have changed that. As a non-American, however, I can't tell whether this is indicative of a change in views that hasn't been noticed by the mainstream media yet, or whether those new Paul supporters really didn't know his views at all despite them coming up whenever his name is mentioned.

Guys, it's pretty clear that the Mormon is buying himself the election here by flooding the airwaves with anti-Gingrich ads. Gingrich, not being a whore or a member of racist cult, does not have the millions of dollars to respond.

Seriously, I really don't see why he's falling. It's kind of sudden. Expected, but I hadn't really see the signs of it happening.

Everyone remembered Newt Gingrich was in fact Newt Gingrich.
