I'm sure President Romney would veto this.

Exactly. Even if Obama signs SOPA (I don't think the bill is going to pass anyway), the other choice would be even worse.

Yeah, I hope people don't actually vote based on things like this. Obama signed a bill I dislike! I'll vote for the guy who'd be way worse in almost every way! I know everyone complains about voting for "the lesser of two evils" or whatever, but that's the only reasonable way to vote, I think.

Just in case someone points out that Ron Paul would veto. I know he would, I don't care. Single-issue voting is stupid, and Paul's crazy on pretty much everything else.

If he signs it, it may be a good reason to vote for him.

Yes.

All the adolescent boys up in arms about this need to grow up. There is no inherent right to piracy. Anther person's intellectual property does not belong to you.

It is Youtube and Facebook's responsibility to ensure they are not hosting illegal content.

Oh, yeah, this.

I don't like that my above post implied I support a veto in the first place. I was just accepting the implied premise of the thread.

Like any bill to do with intellectual property this is being overblown by panicking nerds and people who think any enforcement of the law means FASCISM COMES TO AMERICA. This isn't that big a deal.

Yelnoc, isn't it a little irresponsible to link to a site that clearly has an agenda? Wink

Er, let's be clear that SOPA is a terrible bill, is completely unnecessary, and has the potential to seriously damage the internet as we now know it. The idea that only adolescent nerds oppose it is just patently untrue, as nearly every major internet company has come out in opposition.

That said, Romney would also sign it, and Romney would also be worse than Obama on every issue as well. If you care about protecting the internet, not voting for Obama does not help towards that goal at all.

For the record, I was being somewhat facetious. I'm not quite at the level of seriously referring to Google as "panicking nerds", for example.

Anybody know how to do the eye-roll emotican?  Because that's all this post deserves.

At Oaky, you're a big boy.  You can filter bias.

Oh you're probably right, just thought it was worth a mention. Smiley
