In a contest between having one's nose cut off and castration, to use a Byzantine punishment analogy, the former without a doubt.

but voted for the one who hasn't been overshadowed by his ineffective son and is at least remembered fondly by his party.

Hey, wormy ! Interesting how you stopped posting in the Attlee thread after the inanity of your posts has been exposed... Roll Eyes

Being remembered fondly by the GOP almost authomatically makes you a HP.

Reagan. Not because he was good or even mediocre, but because President in my lifetime has somehow managed to be successively more terrible.

Bush Sr. because, unlike Reagan, he managed to lose reelection.

He's what you would consider "Awesomely Bad". I am ashamed that I have even heard of that phrase....but otherwise, I would probably be a virgin.

Both options are HPs.

Still, it should be a negative criterion rather than a positive one.

Bush the Elder was a great President, in retrospect. I'd venture to say he was the second best postwar GOP President, with Ford in third, Eisenhower in first, Reagan in fourth, Bush the Younger in fifth, and Nixon dead last.

I find it to be an objective one.

Like most Presidents, neither are as great as their fan boys would like to think, nor as evil as their haters assume.  Faults?  Sure.  Good points? yep.  I'll give the nod to Reagan because he played the role of calm grandfather well when we needed a calm grandpa in charge.

From an objective standpoint I would say Reagan.

Don't get me wrong, I hated his policies and thought he was a dickhead.  However, Bush Sr. (no matter how people on here try to slice his supposedly more "moderate" presidency) was pretty much Reagan Derp plus failure.
And before somebody brings up the infamous "OMG BUSH TAX INCREASES!!!" don't get me started on how many taxes Reagan raised during his eight year presidency.  The only REAL difference between the two in regards to tax policy is that Bush was stupid enough to say "NO NEW TAXES!"

So yeah, I guess a very slight Reagan vote.
