The man is 75 years old, led his party for 17 years and the country for almost a decade. Plus he was due to retire next year anyways. If he really wants to help his party, he should resign as leader and let the party choose a much younger man to lead them to victory in 2013 or 2018.

Is it excessive to hold a politician's feet to the fire for giving his base the run around at every turn?
