I have a friend who has just filed as the third of the three Romney delegates in AL's 6th CD for the primary and want to know if the following can be translated into "Will my friend be formally elected?" given the latest state primary polls?:

Nope. Your imaginary friend won't be elected.
I don't see how Romney could win a majority in any district. (A plurality, which pledges two delegates, wouldn't be enough for your "friend" since he acts as the third elector.)

For all we know, there'll only be two candidates left in the race by then.  In which case, every CD winner would be getting >50% of the vote.

No. There will be 3 candidates left. Maybe even 4.
