Fidel Castro dies

Obama wins re-election, and it's not super close... but he performs worse than '08.

Apple will come out with a TV set.  It will be expensive, but it will also be the best TV money can buy and will have a hand in redefining the television experience.

The GOP loses the house by a very narrow margin.

The Dems retain the senate by a paper thin margin.

Obama runs his campaign on a populist note, keeping it about the economy and inequality.  The Dems become more unified for this.

The GOP fractures more as the Tea Party types continue to go rogue against the Romney wing of the party.  For the first time in a very long time, the GOP is less unified than the Dems.

There is much hand-wringing and worrying about Europe... but Europe manages to eek out a minute amount of economic growth.  The stock market does poorly for it.. but most Americans can't be bothered.

2012 becomes the official death-year of the PC.  PC sales continue to plummet as people integrate computers into their everyday life (through phones, wearable items, tablets, and 'smart' appliances/etc.)

Microsoft continues to lose its dominance in the marketplace, though Windows 8 stems the hemorrhaging.

Japanese growth picks up thanks to recovery from last year's earthquake.

Talks begin again later in the year with North Korea and some progress, however fleeting, is made.
