Just wondered what the views were on this, since I guess Condaleeza Rice for the Republicans and Hilary Clinton for the Democrats are possible candidates in 2008.

Is it a realistic possibility that either woman could be nominated and win?

My gut feeling is that the inate conservatism of the American people makes it very unlikely!!! (Unfortunately)

Depends on the woman. I don't know if Condi or Hillary could do it(unless they were both nominated at the same time) but I'm sure it's possible.

Sure, but I don't think it'll be Condi or Hillary.

With some backward states in the country.

Most of these "backward states" have elected woman governors and senators in state-wide elections.

Sure they would. Depends on the candidate of course. Hillary: NO. Boxer: NO. More moderate candidates...probably.

And we'd elect a black candidate as well. Just because those far-left nuts Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do so poorly is not an indicator that 'America won't elect blacks'. Case in point: I have heard it said, in various places, that Colin Powell could've been President if he had wanted it.

True Story: the John Kerry supporters outside the City-County Government Building in downtown Albuquerque who were encouraging people to vote waxed rhapsodic about how they wished Powell would've run in 2000.

I agreed with them...

Would the american people elect a woman as president?  Yes.
Will it be Condoleezza Rice or Hillary Clinton?  I doubt it.

I don't think that females are unelectable in America; you'd just need the right female.  The Governor of Texas who preceded George W. Bush was Ann Richards, a female.  If Texas will elect a female, I think America will. Wink

Governorships and Senators are one thing, president is another.
