I decided to start uploading some of my election nights I had on DVD onto You Tube just for the heck of it. And I figured I would put the playlists here in case any one is interested:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3678F0FC5DAAB4CF&feature=view_all

Be sure to enjoy these and if you have a request for a certain year post it here! Thanks

I have all of those except for 1964 (IDK if any coverage exists) and 1994 (I plan on getting the coverage sometime).

How does 1976 sound as the next one guys?

I just made a random decision to choose 72 first because I had two different dvd's of the coverage, I would have started with 1976 besides that.

As for 1992 I have the NBC coverage, and I will upload it near the end unless someone wants to see it after '76.

These are great!  Good to see the correct color scheme in use by the media back then.  Though why did CBS color all states for the Democrats at the beginning, and switch them to GOP one by one?

It was also pretty funny to see the live feed to the GOP headquarters interrupted by a loud cheer from the crowd in the background; with the explanation that CBS had just called New York for Nixon, only to have Walter Cronkite back in the CBS studio say, "What?  No we haven't."

Oh yes, I wish the colors were still the same. I think the colors for the uncalled states look kind of orange, but it may be different on your computer/cell phone. The colors were miles ahead of ABC, they used yellow for both Nixon and McGovern! The only difference is they added lines through Massachusetts.

I think I know the reason why there was a confusion for NY, NBC called the race a little after 8:00 PM which was way to early, and they called NY early as well.  NBC was behind Cronkite and CBS in the ratings then, and they would do anything for to be #1. I turned out a bad strategy, as they lost by less than a point to CBS. in 1976 they brought the big map in the studio and won the ratings, but in 1980 they got in trouble by calling states based off exit polls, and they had to quit trying to be first all together.

Here are some clips leading up from the 1976 Primaries to September 1976. Got a good little sey here, the video fills the gaps so to speak by leading up to Election Night 1976. It will be up soon, maybe as early as tomorrow. Be on the lookout folks!

Here is Election Night 1976. I took out the commercials and the local breaks just because it took up a lot of space. I hope you all enjoy, some more is coming!

Wow! Fantastic stuff! Might I ask: where did you get all this coverage? I would be interested in getting some myself if it can be bought somewhere.

Also: Post 1988! There is already some on YouTube but nowhere near as comprehensive as your stuff.

I've started uploading the BBC's election night coverage onto YouTube. My YouTube name is ajs41.

(Also on the channel are UK election night shows from 1974 to 2010).

1964 or any election from 1980-1996.  I don't care about the network either.  And could you post some midterm coverage aside from 2010?  Maybe 1966, 1978, or 1998?  I've seen Election Night coverage from 1994 on YouTube, but that would be nice, too.  You've got some of the best Election Night videos on there.

I've looked for 1964, would like to have it even in my own personal library collection at home but can't find it; I've heard in a few places that there is not a lot of 1964 coverage because of the Kennedy assassination but I'm not certain thats the reason.

It's odd. I don't see why the assassination of the 35th president would have anything to do with there being a lack of election-night video from 1964. And I know you wrote "I'm not certain [that's] the reason." To have 1960, 1968, 1972, 1976 … but not 1964. It doesn't make sense. But I haven't seen much video of the 1980 and 1984 elections. Perhaps it was because they were such sweeping victories there is less excitement. (Drama.)

I forgot about this thread!

But I cannot for whatever reason find ANYTHING from 1964, or 1956 for that matter. The only thing I know for sure was that there is a post election special by CBS out on the circuit but what's the point in that? No thanks.

I seen maybe about 30 seconds worth of ABC's 1964 coverage, it looked pretty good for it's age and for ABC in those days. But that's about it.

I need to get into uploading again!

I've been collecting election night and political news coverage for several years. I have coverage from the following Presidential election nights: 1952 (CBS) , 1960 (NBC), 1968 (ALL), 1972 (CBS, ABC) , 1976 (CBS), 1980 (ABC), 1984 (NBC, CNN), 1988 (ALL), 1992 (Clips from ALL and ABC), 2000 (ABC, CNN), 2004 (CBS, ABC), 2008 (CNN, CBS), 2012 (MSNBC)

For the Midterm election nights, I have: 1978 (NBC), 1982 (NBC), 1986 (ABC/CNN I think), 1990 (CBS) 2006 (CBS/CNN)

I also have coverage of major events such as both Kennedy assassinations, Nixon resignation, inaugurations, etc.

What is the rarest coverage anyone has?

I would watch the 2004 coverage, especially the moment of the call of the election for Bush.

Unfortunately, my 2004 coverage doesn't include that morning. My CBS coverage is only an hour or so from the earlier part of the coverage. The quality of the tape is scratchy too....I lived in the country at the time, before the digital transition. lol  My ABC coverage ends in the early morning hours, and the quality is much better, as I traded from another collector, but still ends well before the projection of Bush's win. The very end of the DVD has a brief snippet from WGN-Chicago, which recaps Bush's win, then there is FOX News coverage of Bush and Kerry's victory concession speeches.

I do remember watching the Bush victory projection on TV at the college I was attending at the time. They had a special college based MTV channel that carried CBS news breaks, and they carried the CBS News special report with breaking the news that Bush had won Ohio and the election. I was not a happy camper....lol
