Regardless of his placement, Santorum's infamous second youngest daughter won't have a reason to be upset tomorrow night. Everyone knows how I feel about Santorum. Love him or hate him, whether you believe his surge has been real or creation of the media, there is no denying that this man and his team have worked their asses off in Iowa and deserve a good finish. I think Santorum deserves the amazing week he has had. I think he and the team deserve a first place finish tomorrow night.

I don't care how corny this will sound; I think it needs to be said. It is something that has really bothered me over the past five years. I've argued about it several times here and elsewhere: what really grates on my nerves about that 2006 loss was how disgustingly low the gloating got on a personal level. When a bunch of faceless, Internet cowards (many of them being sorry excuses for "men") decided to rub her father's defeat into some little girl's face by mocking her crying, they crossed a line. It's as disgusting, but probably a bit worse, than Rush Limbaugh's attack on Chelsea Clinton when he called her, some innocent teenage girl, ugly. This is the type of stuff that should never be tolerated and yet there wasn't any real outcry. A little over five years later, that score can be settled. I hope everyone that had enough "courage" to laugh at a sobbing little girl will be sure to tune in tomorrow night. Or maybe they'll be too busy crying.

Ironically, I think most of the people who made fun of his daughter will be hoping he wins tomorrow night, actually.

Yeah, true...until they have to watch him give some type of victory speech. And see his smile. And see his family. And listen to his talking points. We know how much they love that stuff. I can see the cringing already even though they'll get what they want.

Santorum could be elected the next President in a landslide and that picture would still be hilarious.

Stay classy, guys. And remember: you're real men for making fun of a little girl.

Lighten up, I haven't got any problem with Santorum's kids (how ridiculous is it that I have to make that clear?), it's a funny looking picture. It makes me chuckle. Not a big deal.

I agree Phil. That behavior was really uncalled for. Like being raised by The Santorum wasn't a huge trauma for her already.

Her name is Sarah Maria? Is that the most Catholic possible after Vinny-Antonio O'Leary?

However, making fun of her for crying is a dick move.

I don't recall actual mocking... but I remember you jumping down everyone's throat when it was suggested that 'it's politics, it's rough'.

I remember saying that obviously it was tough for her, when you're a child and it's your dad you don't have the perspective. But it's a tough lesson, but I how their children react shouldnt have any bearing on whether you voted for them..

Perhaps Rick Santorum should have considered the repercussions of dehumanizing tens of millions of Americans.

...then take it out on Santorum, not his little daughter.

You don't recall "actual mocking." Wow.

So that excuses a totally innocent bystander (who happens to be a little girl) being attacked? Amazing.

Santorums coming in second. No reason for any crying, but it is not exactly a major victory for them either. Was this thread even necessary?

I actually think it's sort of sad in general how in American politics the children of politicians are so exposed to the media, after all it is their parents choice on not theirs. It's one thing with when they're so old they can themselves choose to be part of their parents campaign or not (Megan McCain in 08 for example) or being as young as the Santorum or Obama children.

I'm not sure if there are any other country where the children are so exposed as in the US.

FWIW, Santorum is the one who trotted her out in front of the cameras.

The mocking of that picture wasn't so much for her crying but the general weirdness/creepiness of it. Like how the rest of the family looks, how they are dressed, and the fact that she's obviously dressed the same way as the doll she's holding.

Uh, yeah. Families typically stand by each other at these events.

More classless behavior/excuses from the disgusting people.

Ah, ok, I understand. Real men make fun of little girls for their dresses and dolls. Winning argument.

This. The other kids faces add the frosting to it too. The boy seemed overwhelmed and like he didn't know what to do and the girl in the back had that "I don't want to be here" face.

Sarah Maria actually seems more like a Spaniard name. Except it would be spelled without an H.
