Should early turnout buzz and that sort of thing be put in here?

Let me be the first to predict a Santorum victory, by a squeaker, followed by Paul and Romney in a tight three-way.

No, the caucuses *start* at 8pm Eastern.  But it goes very fast, and they could have some results in less than half an hour.  Also, the networks release the entrance poll at 8pm Eastern.  Or at least some of them do.

I predict Paul first, narrowly followed by Santorum, then Romney. Santorum’s base will be split with Perry and Bachmann, and the slightest thing they do can cause Santorum to gain or lose. If Bachmann were to drop out in the next few hours before the voting (and hell will have to have ALOT of snowfall to happen), it would be a guaranteed Santorum victory.

Wouldn't a lot of snowfall help Paul just as much though? It would really only drive Romney down to third or maybe fourth.

I'm hoping Romney can pull off a narrow victory, but I think its going to end up being Santorum, Romney, Paul.

The expectations game is also something to watch.

Right now expectations are that
1,2 3 Romney, Paul or Santorum (with no one breaking above high 20s)
4, 5 Gingrich or Perry
6 Bachmann
7 Huntsman

Hopefully expectations are wrong and something interesting/surprising happens like Romney comes in 4th.

If Romney comes in fourth, what sort of repercussions would that have for NH? Wouldn't that throw the race wide open?

Not trying to sound arrogant, but I've been following Iowa pretty closely the past few days. Mitt Romney has managed to receive little negative press (fun fact: There were no TV attack ads this past weekend that attacked only Mitt Romney). He also received a string of endorsements from Iowa media, and his crowds have been enormous.

Not necessarily saying Romney's a lock to win the state. I just don't see any realistic scenario where he finishes lower than third, unless something crazy happens in the next 3 hours. Wink

Romney coming fourth would probably de-facto end his campaign. That's because of what Tmth said, ie it's hilariously unlikely.

Romney is a lock for 2nd or 3rd, first is very, very likely as well.

On the other hand, Romney is just the kind of candidate that would underpoll spectacularly in Iowa.

As in his actual caucus numbers are below his opinion polling numbers.
