Still optimistic about not-Romney. His best areas are a lot more in than Paul's or Santorum's. It'll be interesting to see who wins western Iowa this time. But Polk is still out, Story is still out, the southern counties where Huckabee was in the 40s and 50s last time are still out.

If the current proportion of votes per precinct continues, turnout will end up being around 105,000-110,000, lower than 2008.

It'd be hilarious if it was a dead on, vote for vote, 3 way tie.

All right guys, I'm going to bed now. It's a pity to leave right when Romney has taken the lead, but hopefully that means I'll have a good surprise tomorrow. Tongue

See you. Smiley

About half the counties west of Des Moines have yet to report any results, a potentially good sign for Rick Santorum, since he has led the vote in most of western Iowa so far. Southern Iowa, where Ron Paul is running well, has also been slow to report results.

A lot of those counties where Santorum is running strong are mostly in and Romney is leading in Dubuque.  My guess is Romney does no worse than 2md.  He might win it.

As Dubuque goes so goes Iowa???

It is a heavily Catholic area (60%+).

The GOP is seriously fractured. Each of the leading 3 candidates represents a very different part of the party.

Linn and Dallas Counties are heavily carrying Romney here. The problem is most their vote, especially in Linn, is already in. He needs to either widen his margin in Dubuque considerably, or start showing strength somewhere new.

Woodbury? I forgot Romney beat Huck there last time.

Paul can still hope in that Polk and Story are still largely unreported.
