With 88% of precincts reporting, Ron Paul will finish third in Iowa. Seeing as how this was Paul's best shot at winning a state due to the immense ground effort put forward, where will you go?

I'll get to watch the election as an objective spectator, which will be more fun than tonight was.

3rd party... it really doesn't matter if Romney or Obama wins. The result is the same.

I pity you all.

IIRC ModernBourbonDemocrat said he's apologise to Phil and leave the forum if Santorum wins. So I'd imagine he's paying close attention to the tiny, tiny margin. Tongue

I wouldn't be surprised if the Iowa Republican Party "lost" a few thousand Ron Paul votes around the margins.

I solemnly apologize to Phil for everything I've ever said about Santorum, and unless voting fraud is discovered that pushes Santorum down (unlikely) or Phil decides to forgive me and let me stay, I'll be leaving this forum

At the very least, at least I know that Romney's getting the nomination now

Phil, let ModernBourbenDemocrat stay and both of you patch things. We Paulites will not sit back while neocons/moderates get to have all the fun while telling us to stay at the back of the GOP bus. I will my congrats for the Santorum campaign till I hear more on if the vote was clean.

Oh, one more possible exception: if Paul won the delegate election despite losing the straw poll (see: http://www.businessinsider.com/ron-paul-winner-iowa-caucuses-strategy-201201), then I might stay. Otherwise, adios folks

Romney won by 8 votes, ModernBourbonDemocrat. You can stay here haha...

What will you, Paulites, do if Paul doesn't win in NH? Support Romney, Gingrich, Santorum or go 3rd party (Gary Johnson)?

It's not over folks. Santorum virtually tying Romney in Iowa hurts Romney in New Hampshire. Thanks for the help Phil. You may've handed New Hampshire to the ReVOLUtion.

Paul's best shot was probably always Nevada, not Iowa.

I'm not sure that's the decider - the question is a viable nomination campaign - but if Paul's not the GOP nominee, I'm voting for Gary Johnson.

Nah, because Romney will probably end up getting more than 40% there, so Paul needs a much higher %age to win.  Iowa was his best chance, because 25% was enough to win.

Nah, Paul wont win NH. But he can come in a close second (not as close as last night between Santorum and Romney though), and that momentum can take him to a victory in Nevada.

Actually, I've been hearing that Paul might have actually won the delegates, and its even more likely that he beat out Santorum for votes, so until I'm sure either way I guess I'll stay.

Anyhow, Paul is highly unlikely to win, but he might win any of the next states up to Nevada barring Florida if he plays his cards right, and that could, in a perfect world, get him somewhere against Romney. If nothing else, he's basically guaranteed to win some of the later states.

Santorum winning is probably better for him then Romney winning, since Santorum is basically unviable as a candidate outside of South Carolina. He lacks the organization to get much of anywhere later in the race, but he might keep the heat off of Paul.
