This other guy [Romney] didn't even bother to run for re-election. I have to courage to stand up for our values regardless."

It's a good point. Romney would have lost in a landslide in 2006 along with Santorum, despite governing as a liberal. He just cared more about running for president than risking any blemishes on his resume.

That is true and I think this is the best way for Santorum to confront his loss.

The notion that the 2006 loss somehow disqualifies him has always seemed fairly absurd. Romney's lost more elections than Santorum, anyway.

He probably would be doing better, but he would still be having problems to Romney because of his support for minor protectionism.

He could have ran in 2008 and very possibly could have been the runner up to McCain and frontrunner now. Or, if he saw what was happening then, he could have skipped 2008 with his sights on 2012, maintaining an unblemished electoral record.
