If I vote in the Democratic primary, I can vote for Marcy Kaptur over Dennis Kucinich. The winner of that match-up will almost certainly win the general election in the heavily (but not absurdly so) OH-9. I would like to have Marcy Kaptur and consider Dennis Kucinich a joke candidate who unfortunately has been elected too many times before. I suspect not too many people are going to vote in the Democratic primary this year, so my vote could matter more.

If I vote in the Republican primary, I can vote in the presidential primary. I'm not sure who I'll be voting for, but Romney and Santorum are strong possibilities. I'm also not sure the primary will still even be happening by March. As a side note, if I vote in the Republican primary, I can also vote for a realtor named Steve Kraus instead of Joe the Plumber as the Republican candidate for US House. Neither has much chance of winning, but I view having non-joke candidates as a plus.

So which should I do?

Democratic one, I suppose. When is the primary? Republicans might already have their presumptive nominee for president then, anyway.

March 6. So, I'll need to have my mind made up by early Febraury so I can mail in a request for an absentee ballot because I'll be at school during the election.

I'd register as a Democrat, since your vote will probably matter more in the Kaptur-Kucinich race. As you said, there might not even be much of a contest by late February on the Republican side.

You don't really hear much from him these days, do you?

I agree with Bgwah and Napoleon. Kucinich is Ohio's best congressman ever since Traficant was kicked out. Plus you are a Republican, so unless you plan on supporting the Dem you vote for in the general you should stay in your own primary.

Vote for Kaptur. Pro-life Dems are a rareity that we need more of. Kucinich already betrayed that cause.

It would have been fun if Dennis Kucinich had moved to Washington. Shame it didn't work out.

I probably will vote for Kaptur in the general election. I'm not trying to poison the waters, only trying to get a decent representative. To be honest though, the general election doesn't matter for the office in question; whoever wins the Democratic primary will win in November unless something really crazy happens.

I'll buck the trend and reccommend that you do your part to stop Dennis Kucinich being re-elected.

Why kick out one of the better congressmen that is fighting for the 99%? The prosperous Wall Streeters won't like his stand for the working class but the people who matter most will cast their vote for Kucinich.

Well, if there's anyone I ought to be looking for a representative who fights for, it really ought to be his or her constituents rather than some arbitrary percentage of the American public. And really, that's Marcy Kaptur not Dennis Kucinich. Dennis has long been more interested in the national spotlight than his own district. That's a huge part of why his margins of victory keep shrinking in a seat drawn for him. Ten years ago, he was winning by the same margins as Stephanie Tubbs Jones on the other side of the river. But it's been a while since those days.

The two of them aren't even all that far apart politically. Just one is polished and the other inflammatory. One opposes abortion and the other used to until it became politically inconvenient to hold that position and run for president as a Democrat. One has done a tremendous amount to preserve our lakeshore and attract tourism and the other hands out free flags and jumps in the front of the line every time he sees a camera.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This -while you may no longer have a choice as to whom you want as your presidential nominee since the powers-that-be have already decided for you, you can still make a difference in the Democratic congressional primary.

Actually, Kucinich is the only pro-life member of Congress.

Since your vote doesn't have much of an impact anyway, I would register as a Republican because, as many people have already said, this is the party that reflects your views better.
