My bitter heart beats pleasurably at the thought of Newt defeating Romney

Perry needs to go

He will drop out after SC, of course.

Most likely, after South Carolina, and that's the option I chose.  However, I could see him staying in until after Florida, and possibly until after Nevada, as well.  I think he'll be gone after South Carolina, though.

Hopefully after SC.  On the other hand, the longer he stays in, the more opportunities he has to make amusing gaffes.

If Perry stays in after South Carolina it will be because he hopes he gets the VP slot from Romney as a reward for splitting off a fraction of the anti-Romney vote well after it was absolutely clear he had no chance.

Perry is a dead man walking. He tried to argue that IA and NH didnt matter but he said that SC did matter, so its over for him.

The real question is how long Santorum and Newt will split the conservative vote? The both know that only one of them can survive, but both think they are going to be the one. Its a game of right wing chicken at this point.

His candidacy is such a massive failure that he's been condemned to spend eternity wandering across the country, aimlessly campaigning for the nomination.

He's polling 6% which is likely to drop further...not sure if he's splitting much.

It's enough that it is conceivable Gingrich would have led a few of the recent South Carolina polls if Perry were not in the race.

Well, technically anything from here on is "after" Iowa, so you are correct.

I think after SC too.  But, whenever it is, it won't be soon enough.  Perry might be thinking something along the lines of what Ernest is suggesting.  But after his terrible performance in the campaign for the nomination, I'd think anyone who picked him for VP would suffer a confidence hit among the voters.  The guy is just so incredibly incompetent, it's really amazing.  There are lots of conservative candidates out there who are infinitely smarter than Perry.

I was going to post that, until I saw your post.
