It now looks like gay marriage in the South will be done entirely by court cases.  And it's a tie between Oklahoma and Virginia for the first state to do so.

Looks like the tenth circuit lifted it's stay first, so Oklahoma wins. Did anyone bet on Oklahoma?

Supposedly the 4th Circuit's mandate was to go into effect at 1pm ET, so gay marriage should now be legal in Virginia.

What about Arkansas? I think some happened there?

And Virginia will bring the Carolinas into the group. SSM is in the Deep South!

Virginia is no longer "southern", culturally or politically. We can almost describe it as "South Maryland".

Oklahoma is borderline.

Florida is questionable as a Southern state.

So the answer is West Virginia/North Carolina?

It looks like the answer is going to be a Texas/Louisiana/Mississippi tie, if we're only counting the Deep South.
