Wouldn't the industry served by the pipeline just destroy Canada, not the US? I mean, generally this industry (fracking or whatever its called), only destroys the states and provinces where it takes place, such as the Dakotas, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the various Western provinces of Canada.
Its not as if the pipeline would destroy the areas it runs through or the cities it feeds. So the environmentalists wanted to stop it to preserve Canada from destruction?
In any case as the destroyer jmfcst points out, Canada will still be destroyed anyway by the very same industry, just served by a different pipeline in a different route.
But ultimately the reason I'm not an environmentalists is I wouldn't mind a bit if the world doesn't outlast me.
