Did an aide to Rep. Russ Carnahan hint that the Congressman is running against fellow Missouri Democratic Rep. William Lacy Clay?

The St. Louis CBS affiliate reported this morning that a Carnahan aide said the Congressman was running “in the district he lives in.”

One would hope they find some new, Black, candidate to defeat Clay with Carnahan's tacit support instead.

Carnahan won't win in the 1st district, but I'd love to see him beat Clay, who I personally despise. Maybe the 2nd is where he's running

Rep. Russ Carnahan is filing for reelection Tuesday, setting up yet another member vs. member primary in Missouri with Rep. Lacy Clay.

I never understood why Carnahan was so opposed to running statewide.

Missoury is rather difficult state for Democrats now (except for very good Democratic years). Even McCaskill is not heavily favored right now, despite her incumbency and money advantage..

Because the guy's an awful campaigner who survives based on name recognition alone. Hell, when Carnahan originally tried to run for the Congressional seat he held for a while, he barely beat out a public school teacher in the primary who was running on fumes the whole time. There's an amazing documentary about that particular primary, actually. You can watch it for free online somewhere.

Probably. I never knew this, but Russ Carnahan is really, really, really awkward.

Saw Carnahan on Colbert. Seemed kinda dumb. I guess that's nepotism for you...

Lacy Clay effectively inherited his seat, but he's always struck me as more competent than one might expect given that. I could be wrong about that.

Yeah that's right, I said Siam. Why don't you go tell Pedro Martinez about it.

except the tenses are wrong now. Or maybe I'm talking about 2014.

Of course, John D Dingell inherited his seat, in another age when the world was young, and still holds a much-enlarged version of it.

Inheriting seats isn't itself some sort of unforgivable evil, it just means that we should subject those office-holders to perhaps a little more scrutiny regarding their credentials and bona fides.

Remember how the Carnahan's were supposedly political gods in Missouri? One of my favorite political myths.
