If the exit polls are accurate, Gingrich will win, as his support has always been stronger among men.

Note for 2008: First results went online at 7:15, 22% of precincts were in at 8:15; it was called for McCain at 9:17 PM. This will certainly be called for Gingrich earlier than that, though.

LOL

But yeah, this looks like a Gingrich landslide. If he's leading with women, then this is over.

I'm not sure, unless we have a historically huge gender gap, that necessarily means an obvious >40% for Gingrich.  Plus, it suggests Romney is probably decently solid for second.

but that's entirely intuition, not numbers.

Well, they were Al Smith's best state, with 91.4% of the vote, so I guess they don't mind Catholics that much.

today 16%
last few days 37%
earlier this month 21%
more than a month ago 26%

CNN also says exits have stronger turnout among men than women.  But I don't think that's unusual for a GOP primary.

Whats the exit polling (if any) saying about Ron Paul?

Independents are apparently 26% of the vote, while ARG predicted 24% and PPP predicted 18% (I think). That probably benefits him.

Also more men than women, also good for him.

The exit polls say the electorate is really old, though, so that's probably not too good for Paul.

But also nearly 75% over 45.... which doesn't bode too well.

Especially in a Tea Party-saturated state like SC.

I especially liked the mention of the staged photo-op of Mitt washing his own clothes.  I mean, seriously, unless he has a fear of letting someone else wash them, he has better things to do with his time on the campaign trail than that.
