President Obama delivers the 2012 State of the Union address to a Joint Session of Congress tonight at 9:00 pm ET/8:00 pm CT on all major networks.

COTU stands for "Campaign of the Union" Address as this will probably be just another Campaign speech for the President.

Can we sticky this for a few hours, please?

Hopefully it is his last one with Romney taking over next year. I like the man. I supported him four years ago. I still respect him since he is the president right now. However, his record is not worthy of re-election.

How can that be if he's not even the nominee? Smiley

Please change the title of this thread to 2012 SOTU. "Campaign of the Union" doesn't make any sense, and has no place on this godly forum.

How long before he says the equivalent of "the state of the union is good but could be better"?

Everyone have a shot, contribute their fair share, and play by the same rules? Ew, says Boehner.

Could the president be more full of it? He is completely isolated from what is really happening in the economy. This is what happens when you put a smooth-talking community organizer in the White House.

Of course he isn't. The GOP's #1 priority is making Obama a one termer.

He's in full campaign mode (Michigan? Check. Wisconsin? Check. North Carolina? Check. Which swing state is next?), not giving a real State of the Union Address.

The thing is, I tend to think that this is sufficiently indistinct from the way Obama, Congressional Republicans, and all other interested parties have been acting for so long anyway that I really can't see it changing much of anything, politically or image-wise.

Does Obama realize you cannot dictate to the states what the age for dropping out is? And if somebody wants to drop out and does not have worthwhile parents to talk them out of it, let them! They're a lost cause. They're just going to be a distraction for kids who actually want to be there. Keeping a bunch of lost causes in school till they're 18 is wasting resources that would be better used on kids who actually want to learn. If they don't have it together by the time they're 16, after ten years of schooling, good riddance.

It's not about excuses, and you will never get any kind of amnesty.

This is why Obama is better in speaking platitudes than Romney, Politico.

Yes he did. If it doesn't include E-verify and a touchback requirement, it is amnesty.

Earth to Obama: $1 trillion deficits are unsustainable. It's why you are not going to get any new spending proposals passed. You have a constraint. Deal with it. Everybody else does.

Obama is the best speaker since Kennedy, probably, so there's no argument here. But being a good speaker does not make you a good executive, or make your Administration worthy of re-election.

Yes he did. If it doesn't include E-verify and a touchback requirement, it is amnesty.

If you think we can realistically just deport millions of people, you are out of your mind. Some form of amnesty as part of a larger immigration scheme is the only realistic, pragmatic option.
