 Gameplay thread: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=147790.0

Ok, so here's how this ship is going down and here's the rules and then the preface.

Sorry to BaconKing for doing this here, but the Interactive Timelines board is dead.

1) Sign up for a character in this thread.
2) Game starts "September 1st 2015" and each day (approx) is (approx) one week of time in the game.
3) You must list your campaign stops for the week when playing (no more than 2 states per day)
4) Game will start when we get a handful of people on each side.
5) There will be sometimes where I will speed up time just to make things go faster.
6) After you pick your character, let me approve your bio so we don't have any conflicts. I will post more information about endorsements and how everyone is starting off later.

I will be doing random events, positive and negative. For each person each day I'll flip a coin -head its positive, tails its negative. Then I'll roll a dice to determine how many points in the state you gain or lose due to the event. I'll roll again to see if the affect is state/local or both (1,2 local, 3,4 national, 5,6 both). The most subjective part is that I'll determine the state it effects you in (and the general narrative).

Endorsements

1) I don't want anyone sending me a dream list of endorsements and I'm assuming everyone would like everyones endorsement. I have created a mostly objective way of doing endorsements (not included, its numerical). Senators (of the same party) from a state result in +2% in a statewide poll, Governor +4% in a statewide poll, Congressman (+.25%).

The most subjective part of this will be the narrative I create but I will give additional points in the polls for decent writing/attention to certain states/creativity. The random factor (all the way above) should also make it more interesting.

2016 Narrative

2012 Results:

Mitt Romney is bested by Speaker Newt Gingrich after a dazzling showing in South Carolina followed up by another win in Florida. After stumbling in several debates and a long and drawn out primary, Romney concedes to Speaker Gingrich --whom does not have enough delegates to be the nominee by the time Romney drops out. To gain the necessary delegates, Gingrich selects Ron Paul as his Vice Presidential nominee.

In March 2011, Obamacare is upheld by the Supreme Court. The Arizona law is struck down. Later in 2011 Ginsburg is replaced on the Supreme Court by an equally liberal justice who won't be relevant to this.

President Barack Obama / Vice President Joe Biden - 391 EV, ~55% Popular Vote
Speaker Newt Gingrich / Representative Ron Paul -  147 EV, ~44% Popular Vote

Senate/Congress: Senate remains Democratic, House goes Democratic.

2013: Economy continues on an upswing, unemployment drops to 7.0% by the end of the year. President Obama's approval started at 58% and ended at ~50%. Israel threatens to bomb Iran after revealing that Iran has made substantial improvements. Egypt and Turkey say they won't intervene if Israel does. India urges Iran to give up its nuclear program. Iran seeing that its sorrounded by enemies, opens up to UN inspectors who remove materials. Seen as a win for the UN.

2014: President Obama loses the House of Representatives for a second time, this time by only a few seats, and manages to hold the Senate which is close as well. President Obama's approval drops to 44% by the end of the year. Economy continues on an upswing.

2015: Major scandal involving Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education. President Obama initially stands by Duncan but when more information breaks he fires Duncan. His approval drops to 38% but later rises back to 44%.

By December 2015 unemployment is at 6.5%,  inflation is at 3% and rising, the Tea Party hasn't been heard from in a while, Obamacare has started to go into effect but health care cost are still high and continue rising, and the deficit is smaller but not substantially.

In terms of foreign policy, India and Iran are butting heads with India mobilizing its western forces and Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya are now quasi-parliamentary/Democratic regimes but still have serious human rights issues. Egypt's military still is a power broker while Tunisia is the most Democratic out of the bunch. Islamic fundamentalists hold the majorities in the parliaments of Egypt and Libya.

If you need more info I'll add more. Hopefully we can get some people involved in this.

Governor Gavin Newsom

Can we say Brown had a  non-fatal heart attack in 2013? He didn't die, but is left too weak to continue to the Governorship, and resigns. If not allowed, then Newsom replaces Brown in 2014 after he opts out of running for reelection.

Thinking of playing... Maybe I could be Senator Pete Howkstra of Michigan. I'd like to look into an independent first though. Any ideas for an independent?

Perhaps a billionaire? Mark Zuckerberg? haha, but I think it would be more fun when participating in the primary.

I will be Rand Paul, or my favorite son, Allen West. I want to be Paul more though. Speaking of Paul, I think Rand is more likely to be VP compared to Ron, so maybe that should be changed Wink

Haha, I'm not going to change it but which one do you want? (Although interesting of Gingrich picking Rand...)

Well, if Rand were VP instead of Ron, it would make him more desirable for me? I still contend that Rand is more viable for VP in contrast to Ron. Its your game, and it does not make much of a differance. Since I like a challenge, I will be Allen West, my Congressman.

Maybe that Google guy could give it a shot.

I would suggest Chuck Hagel, but he is rather dovish on some issues.

This'll probably need to be moved there, but good idea starting it here so more can see it. Also, not to nitpick, but wouldn't December 2014 be a better starting point? With December 2015, we're looking at the Iowa caucus being a month away.

Will edit this post shortly when I pick a person.

Right... also I agree with Allen West on much everything so I decided to choose a candidate whose focus was on social issues instead of foreign affairs. I am sure that you and I will not attack each other much!

I've been openly pleading with Bacon King not to move it. He's a benevolent and kind moderator, I think he may understand why I have it here.

I think I'll sign up as Brian Sandoval. Should we make up a small bio that should be approved by you so we'll know what they did from now to 2014 (I still think that should be starting point)?

December 2015 is a bit too soon, you're right but I think December 2014 is a bit too early (and the game will be too long). How does September 2015 sound?

I put you down for Brian Sandoval.

As for the bios (everyone): Let me approve the bio you're going to use just so we don't have any conflicts.

September would be fine, and let people do a flashback post or two of them announcing their candidates.

Will we also be doing as usual and ask for endorsements, or will you completely decide endorsements on your own?
